Campervan Essentials For Colder Months

If you're in need of some tips for keeping warm in your camper in winter, the following can help.

Just because the colder months are upon us, it doesn’t mean you have to put adventures on hold in your campervan conversions. If anything, we all need a winter holiday to get us through 2020! It’s been a tough year for many reasons, so the more time we can spend enjoying the company of our nearest and dearest in our van conversions, the better.

Don’t get me wrong, winter camping trips in the van do require a little more thought and planning than summer trips. While bespoke van conversions these days often come with an abundance of gadgets to see you through the weather all year round, there are certain extras that you should consider whilst we’re in these chilly months. Take a look at the following campervan essentials - they should help you prepare for a winter adventure to remember.

Electric Heaters and Blankets

Heating your campervan can sometimes be a challenge, depending on the temperature outside and other aspects such as the size of your van. Take a look at the many electric heaters available. These are becoming more and more popular for those with bespoke van conversions, as they’re efficient and easy to use. The majority of vans have a fairly confined space, so it shouldn’t take long for the heat to spread through.

For that extra bit of comfort and warmth in your campervan conversions, consider investing in an electric blanket. They are great inventions that can warm up in minutes, keeping you extremely cosy through the colder months. There are hundreds of variants to choose from these days, with plenty of different patterns and specs available. It’s recommended to get a blanket fitted with a safety feature or timer so you can relax in the knowledge that it won’t overheat.

Extra Insulation

Most new van conversions are very well-insulated, so they should be prepared for all weather conditions. However, a little extra insulation never hurt anyone. One handy and easy option is to invest in insulated window covers. It’s usually the rest of the van that has the insulation built in, rather than the windows themselves, so it makes sense to cover the windows too. They’re where the cold is most likely to creep in, so putting properly insulated covers over them can make a real difference on your van adventures.

Carpets or Rugs

Again, this tip is all about insulating your bespoke van conversions effectively and keeping in that all important warmth. Laminate flooring in van conversions is so much easier to clean and manage than carpeted flooring, it must be said. However, it unfortunately can make your van conversion substantially colder in the winter. An easy fix is to get a rug that will help maintain the warmth inside the van. Quite often, you’ll need one to be made especially for your van - depending on the size needed. It’s worth shopping around and paying the price for a great quality rug though if it’s going to make you more comfortable throughout the winter.

Motorhome Covers

Finally, when you’re not out on adventures in your campervan conversions, it’s a good idea to protect them from the cold with a cover. There are many options to look at - some more durable than others. Not only will a cover protect you from winter weather such as rain, hail, wind and snow, but it will also keep your van safe from bird droppings, dust, tree sap and dirt. If you want to keep your van conversions in top condition, a cover can be a really worthwhile investment.

Wherever you plan to go this winter, make sure you do it safely in a van that’s going to keep you warm and cosy.
