The Versatile New 2015 Chevrolet Cruze

The Chevrolet Cruze has redefined what a small vehicle should be about.

The Chevrolet Cruze has redefined what a small vehicle should be about. No longer are cheap, hard plastic materials a part of small cars, nor are seats that resemble a penalty box. Some of the features that are in the new 2015 Chevrolet Cruze are only available in more expensive vehicles, making this an excellent value for the money.

There are four models: the LS, LT RX and LTZ models. The latter three models come with LED running lights. This is a feature found only on medium size vehicles, making its way to smaller vehicles such as the Cruze. The upgraded MyLink infotainment system and has connectivity for iPhones. The new Text Message Alerts reads all incoming texts; a luxury feature. Furthermore it has the new 4G LTE high-speed data connection along with a 7-inch touch screen and additional USB ports for convenience and ease of use. This is truly a small car that feels big.

This Cruze feels as solidly built as a larger sedan, with crumple zones that are at least 2" to 4" thick, along with a damp-infused ride, also associated with larger sedans. It has been redesigned with a new lower and upper grille treatment reminding of the front end in the Impala. It looks just as good here, giving the vehicle an upscale look.

Other notable changes include having the trunk release button move to the center console and the door lock buttons to the doors from the center console. There are more available two tone color dashboard treatments and softer materials to the touch. The cup holders have been revised, an appreciated convenience for all passengers and the driver.

The powertrains are unchanged; the stalwarts of the bunch being the 138-hp, 1.8 L 4-cylinder and the 1.4L 138-hp turbocharged 4-cylinder. An optional 2-liter 151-hp turbocharged diesel inline 4-cylinder makes the Cruze a sportier car, on par with the Mazda 3 and the Ford Focus on sportiness while costing thousands less.

Other cool features which make the Cruze stand out are the 15.6 gallon fuel tank, which gives a range of 700 miles; among the most efficient in its class. A rear park assist, a blind spot and cross traffic rear warning systems as well as a rearview camera add to the coolness quotient. 10 airbags are standard across the board, as is traction and stability control along with ABS brakes. Roominess is key - only the Nissan Sentra has a roomier back seat, and is one of the better choices for tall drivers as the seating position is low enough to see the road but not so low that one feels as being in a carton of eggs.

Furthermore the fuel economy is 33 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway. The 151-hp turbo 4 has the best MPG in its class at 46 MPG. The Cruze Eco which uses the 1.4L turbo 4 achieves 42 MPG on the highway, again tops in its class. So thriftiness at the pump is an excellent selling point for the 2015 Cruze. It can be fitted with the 6-speed manual transmission for additional fun, but most drivers will choose the 6-speed automatic.

The new 2015 Chevrolet Cruze has added enough improvements in order for it to keep up with the ruthless competition in its class. It's a compelling and affordable choice for recent college grads, as well as those starting a family who want to save money, both at the pump and in maintenance costs. The new 2015 Chevrolet Cruze is truly a worthy long term investment.
