The 2014 Chrysler 300 vs. the 2015 Chevrolet Impala

The 2014 Chrysler 300 is currently one of the best luxury sedans on the car market.

The 2014 Chrysler 300 is currently one of the best luxury sedans on the car market. While no one can overlook the 300’s show-stopping curb appeal, the actual driving experience is even more spectacular. Although most drivers will be content with the standard rear-wheel drive system, the availability of all-wheel drive makes the 300 a capable performer in all types of weather. With the arrival of the redesigned 2015 Chevrolet Impala, the 300 faces some stiff competition. Here is a rundown on how these two full-size sedans compare against each other.

Engine and Transmission
The base engine in the 2014 Chrysler 300 is the award-winning 3.6-liter, Pentastar V-6 engine. When needed, the refined engine is able to push out 292 horsepower. However, the S trim’s tuned exhaust system raises the total output to 300 horsepower. On the other hand, the Impala’s optional V-6 engine generates around 305 horsepower. Although both engines deliver a strong performance, the Chrysler 300’s eight-speed automatic gearbox overshadows the Impala’s six-speed automatic transmission.

If you are seeking the rumble of a V-8 engine, the 300’s Hemi engine will certainly deliver the thrills. Unfortunately, the Impala lineup does not offer a V-8 upgrade.

Fuel Economy
When equipped with the Pentastar engine, the Chrysler 300 is able to deliver 31 mpg on the open road. While the V-6 Impala’s fuel efficiency is admirable, its 28 mpg rating on the highway forces drivers to spend more at the gas pump. Even the Hemi-powered Chrysler 300 is able to return 25 mpg on the highway. Although the Impala does come standard with a four-cylinder engine, the more potent Chrysler V-6 engine is just as efficient.

Driving Dynamics
Despite the 300’s large stature, the sedan still remains well-balanced in all driving situations. Many test drivers have fell in love with the car's fun-to-drive nature. Drivers who crave an even sportier driving experience can opt for the tuned suspension system. While the Impala demonstrates decent handling on the road, it does not offer a sports-tuned suspension system.

All-Wheel Drive
If you live in an area that experiences harsh winters, an all-wheel drive system will definitely enhance traction during inclement weather. Due to the fact that the Impala only comes with a front-wheel drive setup, it may not be suitable in snow-prone areas. Luckily, the Chrysler 300 can be purchased with all-wheel drive.

Safety
Both the 2014 Chrysler 300 and the 2015 Impala were able to obtain a five-star overall rating in governmental crash testing. A number of other safety innovations are also available including blind-spot monitoring and cross-traffic alert. Many drivers will also find the optional rear-view camera to be extremely beneficial.

Standard Features
When it comes to standard features, the Chevy Impala cannot compete with the Chrysler 300. Some of the noteworthy features that do not come standard on the Impala include an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, heated seats, 8.4-inch touch-screen interface, and a high-powered audio system.

Both the 2014 Chrysler 300 and the 2015 Chevrolet Impala are great vehicles that have several options for any driver out there. If you are looking for a vehicle that has a great combination of luxury features and performance the Chrysler 300 may be the vehicle for you.
