The redesigned Honda Pilot SUV is rolling out for its debut at the Chicago Auto Show on February 12, 2015.

The original Pilot was released in 2002. It was considered the first mainstream SUV that held eight passengers, yet featured the body construction of a car. It was also revolutionary in its ability to feature driving dynamics that were more like a smaller vehicle. Its fuel economy and interior cabin space were unparalleled compared to other SUVs. The Pilot’s fuel economy was closer to that of a car, while the cabin space was luxurious without making the exterior of the car feel bulky or van-like.

The Pilot’s second generation debuted in 2008. The 2016 Pilot will be the third generation for this model from Honda. The 2016 Honda Pilot promises to deliver, "new technology, advanced safety, class-leading fuel economy and enhanced family utility and versatility,” according to Honda reps.

It will have a dramatic new design and features that include blacked-out pillars and crisp details, reminiscent of the 2015 CR-V. It will also feature new technology, and it promises to be more versatile than other mainstream SUV competitor vehicles.

Features include three rows of seating with eight seats total. It has advanced safety features and state-of-the-art fuel economy. The interior promises “enhanced family utility and versatility,” according to the company.

This car is American through and through. It is one of the models in the Honda lineup that was developed in the United States. The ideas behind the car were born in California and Ohio. It was manufactured at a plant in Lincoln, Alabama.

The third-generation Pilot will further expand a Honda light truck lineup that a redesign of three other models, the CR-V, the HR-V and the Ridgeline.

“Honda continues to fortify its light-truck lineup in 2015, this time turning our eye to the fast-growing family SUV segment. The new Pilot will raise the bar in a segment it helped to create, with more innovation, style, premium features and family utility than ever before,” said Jeff Conrad, senior vice president and general manager of the Honda Division.

Honda’s luxury brand, Acura, will also debut one of their new models at the Chicago Auto Show, the 2016 Acura RDX. Similar to the Pilot MDX, the RDX is a smaller option. The first generation of the Acura was introduced in 2006 and the second in 2013. The third generation will have improvements that include safety, performance, style, comfort and dynamics.
