Top Uses Of Bunded Pallets

In general situations, bunded pallets are used by anyone storing liquids that could be harmful to the environment

Bunded pallets, also known as portable bunding, spill containment pallets or spill pallets are a product that is designed to safely hold containers that are used to carry and store hazardous substances. These flexible and cost effective spill control products are often used for the safe storage as well as transportation of containers and drums holding hazardous or dangerous chemicals and other substances.

If a container on a bunded pallet was to rupture, leak or spill, the spill would be contained in the pallet and not be able to reach the surrounding environment. The spill could then be safely dealt with without causing a danger or pollution threat.

The top uses for bunded pallets

In general situations, bunded pallets are used by anyone storing liquids that could be harmful to the environment, any person animal or property.

They are also used when transporting dangerous or hazardous liquids.

Bunded pallets are used when storing oil or other noxious chemicals that if spilled could leach into watercourses with the result of contaminating the environment, killing fish and other aquatic animals as well as flora and fauna.

Bundal pallets can be used inside or outdoors as long as they are protected from the weather to avoid the sump (area that would hold any spills) from filling with rainwater as this would reduce their ability to hold any spills.

Most bundal pallets are designed to be safely moved and carried with a forklift

Bundal pallet sizes

Bundal pallets come in a range of sizes to suit storage container with the majority being for 205L drums, (54, US Gal or 45 Imp Gal drums) or Intermediate Bulk Containers

Bundal pallets have a sump that is able to contain either 110% of the contents of the largest container it holds or 25% of the total of mixed container it holds.

Bundal composition

Bundal pallets are typically made from UV stabilized polyethylene, galvanized steel, mild steel and stainless steel. They type largely depends on the nature of the chemical or liquid stored or carried on them

Some design factors that are common to all bundal pallets

  • They have a sturdy construction and able to withstand the required weights they carry
  • They are fully sealed so they cannot leak
  • They must be fully compliant with all government and local body legislation
  • They should be able to be moved using a forklift
  • They need to have a suitable flat area to securely hold and place drums and other containers
  • They are weather and temperature resistant
  • Oil resistant and easy to clean
  • Are relatively light weight, up to 4,000kg each
  • Can be fitted with weather proofing covers where required

If you require more information regarding the Australian legal requirements of using bundal pallets consult the following standards:

Australian Standard AS1940:2004 – For the Handling and Storage of Flammable and Combustible Liquids

The Australia Standards AS 4452B1:1997 – For the Handling and Storage of Toxic SubstancesThe Dangerous Goods Act of 1975

A bunded pallet is designed to safeguard the environment from any threat that could occur when storing or transporting any toxic liquid compounds such as petroleum products, fuel and oils, hazardous, dangerous, poisonous, corrosive or flammable chemicals. They contain a spill tray with a sump that can contain 110% of the largest container they can carry.
