Konica Magicolor 2400 Printer Review

The Konica Magicolor 2400w prints 35,000 pages every month as the maximum duty cycle and is aimed at smaller offices.

Entry level machines are a highly competitive market, with many small businesses, schools and individual users needing a reliable machine to churn out a reasonable amount of work every month. The Konica Magicolor 2400w, is capable of fulfilling those needs, with great output, a 35,000 page duty cycle and nifty software solutions for the most ardent printer user. This is certainly a robust machine and it has been engineered to be fast and actually belies the price point it offers at the point of sale.

It is important to discuss the Konica Magicolor 2400w toner cartridges with this machine, as it is an important sticking point, with many entry level machines. Firstly Konica have made this an easy printer to get to grips with by pre-installing the km magicolor 2400w toner cartridges at the factory. There after, it is possible to purchase two different quantities of km magicolor 2400w toner for the machine. The lowest yield toners are 1,500 pages for the cyan, magenta and yellow and then the black and the three colours are available in a 4,500 page yield. The black toner is only available in the higher yield but this makes perfect sense, as the printer will be used frequently for black and white printing. It is possible to load the machine with a maximum of 200 sheets of paper.

There is one anomaly with this printer; it will only work with a PC. This is perhaps where it shows it is an entry level machine, as Konica do not anticipate it being used with higher end and more graphic orientated Macs. The rest of the installation process is driven by the installation CD and will only need a USB cable to connect the two hardware items together.

The print speeds are what you would expect of this type of printer, which high monochromatic speeds and substantially lower colour rates. The black and white output is 20 pages per minute and the colour rate is 5 pages per minute. The software enhancements are superb and we would suggest utilising the Professional Colour Calibration tool, which has the ability to create up to 100 positively identical pages. There are further colour matching tools to really get the most from this printer.

It is possible to look at this printer and think the memory is low but the ASIC 48 MHz processor works well at processing jobs and the 32 MB of memory copes equally well. For a budget range printer, you certainly get eye-catching tools for your money.
