Ways To Motivate Your Child To Succeed

Not all five fingers are the same. This common phrase is extremely apt for kids

There are some kids who are self-motivated, do their homework on their own, participate in maths leagues or are driven creators and Kidpreneurs (Kid entrepreneurs). These kids don’t need to be reminded or pushed to do these things. On the other hand, there are kids who won’t do things unless they are pushed or prodded - sometimes incessantly or sometimes just slightly. As parents, it can be challenging to get your children to do things. And what do parents resort to when kids are being difficultThey nag. Honestly, that’s the worst thing you could do; if you get into the whole push-pull and nagging loop with your child, in time you are going to end up further demotivating him/her. Younger children are naturally intrigued and eager to learn which makes it the best time to establish a sense of self-motivation in them that will drive them to succeed throughout their life. Even if your kid is not that young, it is never too late to start motivating them to succeed in life. Validation from a parent is extremely important for any child.

Here are a few things that you can do to motivate your child to be a successful person in life -

The most important thing you could do is to encourage your child to follow his/her passions, whether it is dramatics, playing a sport or an instrument, doing arts or craft and so on. Children will show inclination towards a wide variety of fields and as a parent, it is important to remember that not every skill or pursuit should result in monetary gain. It is important that you, as a parent, show enthusiasm for your child’s interest. Through your enthusiasm, you can show your support for your child’s endeavors, further inspiring them to succeed. A simple example of this would be as follows - if your child shows an interest towards technology and computers, get them enrolled in computer courses for kids.

Another very important way you can motivate your child is by teaching them how to take control of their life. Very often children cannot handle the pressures and rigours of modern school life and this can ultimately prove to be very demotivating for a child. Teach your kids to organize their time better and acquaint yourself with their busy study schedule so that you can streamline it for them. Once they realize that they can better handle their time, it will push them to take on more work and produce better results.

Right from the time when your child is in an early learning centre, it is important as a parent for you to be hands-on with your kid. Get involved in their learning process so that they don’t feel alone. Always remember, when they are ready to spread their wings, they will soar to new heights. But until then, it’s important to be there for them.
