4 Ways Chia Seeds Are Champs

What they lack in size, they make up for in strength!

Though they’re small in sie, chiaz seeds are known for being one of the most powerful and nutrient-rich foods on the planet. In fact, the name “chia” origiates fnrom the ancient Mayan word for strength.

So what gives these little black seeds such an impressive reputation? Here are just a few reasons why you might want to consider adding some chia to your diet today…

They’re High in Omega-3 Fatty Acids.

In fact, gram for gram, chia contains more omega-3s than salmon. Unfortunately, chia is very high in the omega-3 ALA (alpha-linolenic acid) which needs to be converted into an active form, such as EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) or DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), before our bodies can utilize them. That being said, studies have shown that incorporating chia into your diet can raise blood levels of EPA by up to 39%. This can assist in reducing high levels of fats or triglycerides in the blood.

They’re One of the World’s Best Sources of Fiber.

Having a high soluble fiber content allows chia seeds to absorb 10-12 their weight in water, helping increase fullness and slow food absorption. Eating a high-fiber diet is a key element of maintaining your gut health.

14% of Their Weight is Protein.

Making them one of the best sources of high-quality protein for plant-foods, and an excellent pantry staple for people who do not eat meat or animal products. While the benefits of protein are immense, combined with it’s high fiber content, this makes chia a great ingredient for anyone trying to lose weight healthily.

They’re Loaded with Antioxidants.

These antioxidants protect the fats within the chia seed, but they also protect the cell molecules within your body from free radicals that can contribute to aging and the spread of certain diseases.

One of our favorite things about chia seeds is how easy it is to work them into your favorite recipes!
