There are two types of insomnia: Acute Insomnia and Chronic insomnia.

Acute insomnia:

Acute insomnia is based on the problem you are facing in your life, for instance, you won’t be able to asleep the night before your exam or after receiving stressful news. This problem of sleeping doesn’t need any treatment and it resolves with due course of time. Acute insomnia is a short-term problem and it can last from one night to a few weeks. It occurs when you are suffering from emotional or physical discomfort mainly breaks up in the relationship or suffering from high temperature. Some of the medications can also lead to acute insomnia such as medicines related to cold, allergies, depression, high blood pressure, and asthma. Chronic Insomnia:

Chronic insomnia is a disturbed sleep which takes place at least three nights per week and lasts till three months. There are many factors responsible for chronic insomnia such as unhealthy sleep habits, clinical disorders, workload, and changes in the environment. People suffering from chronic insomnia can only benefit from treatment and medication. Chronic insomnia is linked to other medical or psychiatric issues. This is a long-term problem and it can go and come with due course of time. Causes of chronic insomnia include depression, chronic stress, and pain or discomfort at night.

Women are at a higher risk of insomnia than men due to hormonal imbalance during puberty and pregnancy. An elder person is at higher risk of suffering from insomnia due to change in lifestyles such as increased health problems, or increase in medication. People, who are overweight, may also suffer from insomnia because eating too much may cause you to feel physically uncomfortable while lying down. Insomnia often occurs with other mental health disorders such as depression, fatigue, stress, and fear of anything. Sleep studies took place in Sydney which shows that insomnia can also lead to various physical problems such as headaches, blood pressure, and heart problems.
