Surviving Any Storm

Most people consider Emergency Preparations as vital to be ready in the event of an emergency situation of any sort however that is not necessarily the case. Often people are relieved to know that as a result of their prudent food storage program they prepare for other crises which can occur in their life.

I know a couple who was getting along fine in life. The husband had a well-paying job and the wife worked part time at as a teacher's aide. Life was being exceptionally good for the pair when all of a sudden, the husband developed severe health problems.

About two years before her husband got sick the wife felt an urgency to begin stocking up on emergency food supplies, etc. She eventually stored up on about one year’s worth of food. Fortunately, her husband is getting better as they are approaching the one-year anniversary and their food supplies are dwindling. They were lucky that the wife felt the need to begin stocking up on food as it got them over the bad spots that were to come.

This very same woman now has learned the fine art of mixing grains and making extended meals. Normally in the past, she would make a lunchtime meal and later make dinner, but now she has become frugal and realizes that it takes the same amount of heat to make two meals with one for lunch and one for dinner. She now has a small orchard set up on her 1/3-acre homestead from which she has learned to harvest and can.

They have two cars and each is now equipped with a 72 hour bug out kit. Her bags are packed and this lady is now ready to take on any emergency. Where she lives is prone to flash floods and she claims that when the warning is sounded, she is well prepared to move the cars out and depart the area within less than an hour, even though the small streams which border her home have only overflowed once in 20 years.

Her son is a scout and passes on a lot of the knowledge that he gains from his training to his family. He is similar to having their personal survival trainer. The family is slowly accumulating most of the smaller emergency supplies which they need and hope soon to be completely ready to tackle any sort of disaster.

We often take many of our life actions, for granted. We go to work; we study and we play without regard to any adverse actions which could befall us. We have plenty of food and rarely think about any food shortage that could happen. Being prepared is a great peace of mind in today's society.
