Why Team Sport Benefits Your Kid

Teach your children social skills and let them improve body and mind by participating in team sports.

Football, basketball, volleyball, baseball and so forth. All these great team sports have the same thing in common: they promote a healthy lifestyle while also teaching valuable life lessons to our youngsters. 

Here are six reasons to why you should consider letting your kid participate in team sport activities. 

Respect and discipline - Your kid will soon enough learn that he or she does not only have to listen to the coach and other members of the team, but also demonstrate respect. Respect is a great virtue, that will help your kid learn about discipline and understand that everyone needs to respect each other – even when people look different on the same matter.

Learn to set things in system - Even as a young child, you have many activities to balance. School, homework, chores and family time are just some of them. Therefore, your child will have to learn about time management, so that he or she can fit it all into everyday life. Time management is an important skill your child will learn to master as times goes buy and education, sports, work etc. all needs to be planned.  

A healthy body and mind - Physically active kids do better on test scores. The correlation between a healthy body and mind is undeniable. Besides, team sports often help the youngsters build self-esteem which they can bring into their studies. 

Success in sports often leads to more self-belief in other areas of life, making the mind grow as well as the body.

Blow out steam - Sport is an exceptional way of letting out steam and avoid stress. Yes, ‘stress’ if often tough of as something the only materializes in adult life, but children can sense it too. Using energy allows kids to forget about troubles and let out frustrations in a suitable environment. 

Fair play - Sport will teach your kids that you will not always win. Especially when growing up, your child will benefit from knowing how to handle the disappointment of not always finishing first. Teach your kid that it is normal to finish second or third and that effort and team spirit are virtues of a true winner.  

All about the group - There is no “I” in team. It is all about the group, which is also why it fosters cooperation towards the same goal. Children will learn to pursuit the same goal, together with their friends. They will even learn to work together with other kids they would normally not get along with. 

This teaches the kids to work with others in the group, even though they have different personal traits.  It is all about team work for the greater purpose.
