Parental Tips For Parents Raising Twins

Raising 1 can be a challenge and when you know you have twins its double trouble. Some tips shared here to handle twins.

Managing twins efficiently can be an overwhelming plus tedious job. Handling one has been a challenge, here you have two who need your attention and efforts. Both the mother and father have their respective leaves from work, but the mother has to handle this situation effectively primarily.

Some useful tips below:

1. Put your twins on the same schedule:

We know how challenging it is to handle the warning signs of discomfort for 1 kid, here you have 2 to deal with. We recommend putting them on the same schedule as much as possible because this means you will be able to find yourself some break. Be prepared this is not an overnight procedure, it takes time just stay put.

  • a. Nurse them at the same time: There are many nursing pillows that are specially made for the comfort of a nursing mother for twins. Here, you together nurse them making no one feel more important, with you sitting in the middle.
  • b. Put them to sleep at the same time: Here, you may need an additional person's help. Initially, you will be comfortable with both of them in your arms, but as they grow you will need an additional hand to this task. You can also habituate them to sleep in a baby cot where both hands are free to comfort your little sweet twins.
  • c. Bath them together: If as a parent you want to bath both your kids, while one is enjoying his/her bath, ensure the other one is watched on by someone. Once you're done with one wipe them with Genius Baby Soft cotton towels, ensure no gaps/distractions and get the other infant fresh and clean with a bath. We recommend not making it a habit to bath one twin first all the time. Alternating that helps them realize that they can't be allowed to be first.
  • d. Massage them together: A massage session when done together makes both feel equal and important. Here, you will need 2 hands, sing along some rhymes, turn on some soothing music and make it an entertaining task.

2. Alternate them:

If you have no helping hand you have no option but to handle all these tasks alone. The best remedy to handle the above tasks is to use alternate therapy. While one is enjoying an individual playtime on the floor mat with toys the other one can be in your arms. While the baby on the floor mat gets fussy, alternate them. Making a habit of bathing, feeding one baby 1st will somehow get insecurities to set in them. We do not recommend distinguishing between them during their routines. Equality is a trait taught to them from the very initial stage, i.e. during their upbringing time.

3. Celebrate their individuality:

Twins are 2 different individuals who are just of the same age. They look similar but are two different souls. Each one of them will react differently to the same situation. E.g: 1 may get fussy with delayed feeding and the other is as calm as water in the same situation. It’s critical to see your infants as two individuals so that they begin to see themselves that way too. Refer to them by their names and not by saying “ONE OF THE TWINS” or “THE TWINS”. Make sure they have their own individual baby clothes and toys they can call theirs.

Important points to ponder upon:

While raising multiples at the same time can feel like being at the center of a three-ring circus. As time progresses, you will get better and comfortable with them. With time and understanding, you will be awestruck to realize that both your twins will soon entertain each other, offloading you from this job. We recommend you wait for the right time. You will soon see them sharing smiles, hugs and kisses making your parenthood worth it.
