Quick Tips For Installing A Dome Shelter

Dome shelters are easy to install in three stages with these 10 quick tips for installation

Placing the containers

Make sure the area you choose for your dome shelter isflat to make installation easier as you will require lifting equipment to position the arches and pick a day without any wind.

  1. Carefully level and mark out the area where your containers will go
  2. Position the containers correctly to the shelters arches span and check the diagonals to ensure the containers are square to each other and level so the end wall will fit snugly
  3. Keep your dome cover rolled until you use it so it stays clean and undamaged
  4. Adjust the containers so there is a slight tilt towards the outside edge so any rain water will drain away not pool under the cover. Assemble and erect your dome shelter frame
  5. Carefully measure the anchor bracket layout and attach them in the correct position, this a vital step to ensure the ease of the rest of the dome installation
  6. Be careful to place nuts, bolts and screws on the undersides so they do not come into direct contact with the dome cover
  7. Ensure all sharp edges as ground away and any screws are covered with duct tape. All leading edges should also be covered in duct tape to protect the dome cover while sliding into place. Installing and Tensioning the Dome Cover
  8. Install the end walls before you fit the dome cover, the cover pelmet will rest over the end wall when fitted
  9. Place a large drop sheet on the ground before rolling out the dome cover to keep it clean
  10. Take care when pulling the cover over the frame and have one person inside to ensure the cover or ropes don’t snag or get caught. Once the cover is on the frame square it up and pull the pelmets over the end arches.

Tension the dome’s cover in the longitudinal direction first, bringing the ends over the end arches and tie off then tension on the sides. This will ensure that the cover is centered properly.

The cover should appear smooth without any dips or wrinkles with the greatest tension longitudinally. The lateral tension should be only enough to secure the cover and keep it tight. Otherwise, there may be dips or hollows between the arches which will cause stress on the seams and allow the cover to flap in the wind.

When you wish to erect a dome shelter, choose a flat level area that has enough room to easily move around on and allows you to use a crane or “A” frame to erect the arches. It’s vital for safety and to ensure the job goes smoothly to pick a day when there is now wind as the dome cover is difficult to control in windy conditions and have enough people to assist, usually 4 to 6 workers are required.
