For the festive season, we share a few simple DIY hacks and decorating ideas to inspire you this Christmas.

With the Holidays just around the corner, it’s the best time of the year to spread some festive cheer, so why not start in your home?

Whether you’ll be inviting family over or you’re planning a cozy affair, there are simple ways you can decorate your apartment for Christmas and many more festive traditions.

Let’s start with getting your living room ready!

1. Create Enough Space

How many guests will you have over? Most of us get caught up in the décor and we forget about creating enough space and seating for everyone to be comfortable. Think about furniture for a small apartment to help you accommodate your guests.

2. Soften the Mood with Fairy Lights

Fairy or rope lights will instantly beautify an indoor or outdoor area and is one of the simplest ways to create a festive atmosphere. The subdued lighting also lifts your mood and will certainly make an impression when guests enter the room.

3. Bring Some Cinnamon into Your Home

Scented candles in cinnamon, pumpkin spice, and ginger are great ways to bring the fragrance of Christmas into your home. Place a few fragranced candles on the mantle, the table, and the living room so guests experience festive scents when entering.

4. Use Gift Boxes

An affordable way to bring Christmas into your home is to prepare gift boxes with festive colors or to cover small cardboard boxes in themed wrapping paper. Place on the table or around the room and fill with tinsel or a few hanging ornaments. You could even do a Christmas decoration in a box as a small gift for each guest.

5. Make Your Own Table Runner

Rather than purchase a set of placemats and table runners that can become quite expensive for a Christmas lunch or dinner, you can visit your local fabric store and find a good quality fabric at a fair price.

You can opt for a pitch-black fabric and match with festive plates and cutlery, or you can choose a white and red, gold blends, silvers, and even green and white striped material to make your own festive theme for the table.

Measure the length of the table and the desired width you want the runner to be. Have the fabric cut and drape it across the table once you’re ready to set everything on the day.

To complement your runner, you can purchase some extra fabric and cut it into placemats. Using the material, you can make your own runner and placemats with seamless edges and without having to stitch it all together!

6. A Simple Craft to Decorate Your Table and the Tree

The simplest way to decorate the table and the tree for Christmas is to use sucker sticks. You can get the kids involved too and make it a fun craft for everyone.

For this DIY project, you will need at least 12 sucker sticks to make 4 trees. We’ll be using 3 sucker sticks per tree.

Along with your sucker sticks, the following items will be used to put everything together:

  • Paper Glue
  • Craft paper
  • Scissors
  • Craft paint
  • A paintbrush
  • A sheet of cardboard (for the stem of your tree)

Steps:

Take 3 sucker sticks and glue them in the shape of a triangle. Allow it to dry and you should be left with a solid triangle.

The next step is to cut the craft paper into a triangle that will fill the frame. Choose the colors you prefer and glue the paper onto the back of the sticks then allow it to dry. The sticks should create a frame for the craft or color paper.

Once the paper covering the sticks has dried, get your craft paint out and start painting! You can add dots in different colors to represent Christmas lights and decorations.

Lastly, glue a piece of the cardboard cut like a tree stump and glue it to the back of your sucker stick and paper combination. You should have a little popsicle tree! If you want to hang the tree, make a small hole on the top and feed a piece of string through the hole. Tie the string and you have a hanging tree.
