Favorite Fairy Garden Signs

This last summer we took a road trip to Tennessee, on our way we played an alphabet game of finding letters on billboards posted along the roadway. I would not be surprised if people driving in nearby cars could hear, my husband or I shout out, “N” as we saw a sign announcing that we had entered the city limits of Nashville. Signs are famous in fairy gardens too. In fact, there is a tale told by the gnomes that the fairies play the alphabet game as they flutter along the pathways in the miniature garden. This memory is the reason placing signs with sayings or words near fairy houses and along the paths is a necessity for me. The type of sign I would pick to place in a fairy garden varies. My favorite signs have hand-painted designs with sayings written on a tiny piece of wood.

The Let it Snow sign has a blue background with sprinkles of white paint that looks like flakes of snow, which is a  popular sign of gardeners living in Winter, Wisconsin. Welcome Winter is another preferred sign for the folks living Up North.

Since Halloween is my favorite holiday, it is not a surprise that Happy Harvest tops my list.  Painted in the corner of the wooden sign is a plump orange pumpkin with green tendrils and little lines that resemble stitches define the border. Wood is one type of sign, but other materials may be used.

Another conventional material used in the recent production of miniature accessories is resin, which resulted in an explosion of colorful miniature accessories in the fairy garden world. Today’s fairies have signs in their yards with creative messages, signs that give directions, and signs that support holidays. One of my favorite locations wordings on a resin sign called, The Enchanted Forest. Resin and wooden signs are not the only materials used in the fairy garden. There are also metal signs.

With Valentine’s Day almost here, I have spotted a sign that I would like to add to my miniature garden.  In a hot pink color, the stake has the words, Peace, Love, and Garden written on it. These words bring to mind the reasons I enjoy working in my fairy gardens. Tinkering in the soil and arranging the miniature accessories bring a calming mood to a stressful day. I love searching for fairy houses and miniature plants to complete the current theme. The best part of miniature gardening is that it has become a family hobby with my husband, mother, and soon my daughter who join in the festivities.
