Garden Time Is Family Time

Shh. Do you hear that? It is the sweet sound of silence! I love a quiet morning in my miniature garden, with hours spent weeding, watering, and admiring my miniature plants. I never feel completely alone, because I have all of my fairy friends with me, but it is nice to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the social summertime.

Do you crave alone time in the miniature garden? I usually do, but this year, I have been searching for some ways to involve my family members in my fairy gardening hobby. After months spent apart, we are finally able to spend time together again. A couple of hours in the sunshine gives us all some much-needed fresh air and family time. Read on to learn about three of my favorite ways to connect with family members through miniature gardening.

Fun for Kids

I say this all the time, but it remains true: Miniature gardens are the perfect place to learn and have fun with little ones! Children love to explore the outdoors, and the fairy garden gives them a safe and easy way to get their hands dirty while learning about weather, insects, soil, and miniature plants. To create a child-friendly fairy garden in a container, all you need are some succulents or other miniature plants, a bag of soil, a cup of water, and a little bit of patience!

It is finally June, which means Father’s Day is coming up. Not everyone celebrates this day with their dad, and it can be a hard holiday for some. But I have found that the miniature garden can be a healing place, even for those who struggle on Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, and other family holidays.

Some gardeners create Memory Gardens for their loved ones, featuring activities and themes their parents enjoyed. Others invite their parent over to help construct a miniature garden with a scene from a memorable family vacation, like a beach or lake.
