How To Store Bedsheets, Comforters, & Other Bedding

Depending on the weather, we must change our bed sheets, comforters and any other bedding as well. There are various good quality low price bedsheets online which are easily available and can be purchased as per the changes in the weather.

Many times cheap bedsheets and seeing sale on bedsheets and comforters attracts us and we tend to hoard them.

But what about the old ones and the ones not required during winters or summers? Where and how to store all this extra bedding? If not stored properly, they get damaged, degrading the fabric and producing foul odour, making it impossible to reuse.

The most common mistake people make is, stuffing all the bedding in a single bag and letting it sulk in the store room.

You need to follow a few steps to ensure that your bedding accessories are clean and as new as before when you reuse them.

Wash Your Bed Sheets Before Putting Them Away

Unwashed Bed sheets or comforters if stored without cleaning, can cause the dust and bacteria on them to react and cause fungus. Hence, before storing it, your bed sheets should be cleansed properly so that all the dirt and moisture gets washed away. However, all the bedding shouldn’t be stuffed in one cycle of the washing machine. Also, make sure that the water used for cleansing is not extremely hot, which can deteriorate the fabric quality.

Let The Fabric Breathe

After washing the bed accessories, the next step is to thoroughly dry them up in an outdoor open breezy space and let heat and air flow through them. If the bedding is stored even with the slightest dampness it can generate a bad odour and fungus.

Bags To Be Used For Storage

It is ideal to buy a bed sheet storage case as they are specially designed to keep the sheets protected and safe. However if you don’t have one you can use cotton bags or any acid free box to store them or vacuum seal bags.

Stay Away From Compact-Damp Storage Areas

Putting away your comforters and bedsheets in a compact-damp place, like your garage, store rooms where there is no air ventilation can damage your bed sheet. It can increase the moisture on your mattress and spoil it. It is preferable to store it in a cool and dry place. A few places you can store your bedding in, is under the bed, a linen closet or baskets.

These tips can help you increase the life of your bedding accessories.
