7 Simple Things You Can Do To Be More Eco-friendly

In today’s society, we have no bigger responsibility than to take care of the environment that we live in.

Sustainability comes in all shapes and sizes and can be incorporated into any lifestyle seamlessly with just a little bit of work and commitment.

Read on to learn 7 simple things you can do to be more eco-friendly and live more sustainably.

Go Meatless (as much as possible)

The greatest eco-friendly impact you can have is to go meatless (as much as possible). A full vegan lifestyle is extremely beneficial to the environment as well as your own health. We understand that a major lifestyle switch may seem daunting, but even switching to meatless meals a couple of times a week will positively impact the environment in a big way! Start small and work your way up to whatever fits best into your lifestyle.

Stop Using Single-Use Plastics

According to National Geographic, 91% of plastic isn’t recycled. Single-use plastics are destroying our environment. Refusing plastic straws at restaurants, bringing your own reusable bags to the grocery store, purchasing containers to store leftover food rather than using plastic bags and cellophane, and purchasing a reusable water bottle rather than drinking plastic bottled water are just a few ways to reduce the plastic that ultimately ends up in (and destroys) our environment.

Recycle & Compost

Always check the label before throwing something out; the chances are most of the things you’re going to throw in the garbage can either be recycled or composted. This greatly reduces the waste that goes into landfills, and your waste can be reproduced and repurposed into something that actually gives back to the environment.

Switch to LED Lightbulbs

Not only are LED lightbulbs more eco-friendly, they are also less expensive (because they use less energy), and they last longer than regular light bulbs. That sounds like a win-win-win to us!

Limit Driving & Consider Carpooling

Driving is definitely not a sustainable practice (unless you have an electric vehicle). While driving may not be avoidable at all times- walk, ride a bike, or take public transportation when you can and consider carpooling with friends, family, or coworkers!

Don’t Waste Food

Wasted food ends up in landfills and emits CO2 into the environment, which is very damaging to our ecosystem. Buy less at the grocery store. Eat the leftovers you have in the fridge. Take home to-go boxes of leftovers at restaurants (with as little plastic packaging as possible).

Turn It All Off

Turn off the lights when you leave the room, unplug unused electronics, and don’t leave the water running! Conserving energy is so important when it comes to living an eco-friendly life.
