Amsterdam For Adrenaline Junkies: 4 Hair-raising Adventures

Adrenaline junkies adore Amsterdam as there are many exhilarating, fun and unique extreme activities to try here.

Amsterdam is, of course, a popular destination due to its rich culture, liberal attitude and electric nightlife, but it is also somewhere that is perfect for adrenaline junkies. There are a handful of hair-raising activities to try here that will certainly scratch the itch and give you a unique experience in this wonderful city.

Here are a few of the more off-the-wall (or in the air!) experiences that are sure to get your blood pumping.

Bungee Jumping Over Amsterdam Harbour

Bungee jumping is always a brilliant option for adrenaline junkies and Amsterdam Harbour is the perfect place to try this, whether it is your first time or you consider yourself a pro. The Harbour is one of the prettiest waterways in the world, but this will be the last thing on your mind when looking over the edge 50 metres above the water! Those who have tried this activity before will testify that there is no feeling quite like it and it will have you buzzing for hours after you are done.

The Giant Swing at A’Dam Lookout

Take in astonishing panoramic views of the city up in the clouds at this thrilling observation deck, which features the highest swing in all of Europe! Swing a whopping 100 metres above the ground over the edge of the tower whilst observing great sights like the historical city centre, the famous canals and the port. This is an incredible experience which will show you the great beauty of the city whilst simultaneously providing you with a rush of adrenaline.

Blokarting at Amsterdam Beach

Another unique extreme sport to try (this one hailing from New Zealand), Blokarting involves using the power of the wind to propel custom-made karts along Amsterdam’s beautiful beach. It may not sound too wild, but the powerful Dutch winds here can allow you to travel at speeds of up to 60 miles per hour. This is an activity for true daredevils and is particularly good with a partner or group of mates as you can race each other along the sand (loser pays for lunch!).

Flyboarding in Amsterdam South

Yes, this is as cool as it sounds! Flyboarding is a unique extreme sport that involves standing on a board connected by a long hose to a watercraft; propulsion allows you to soar into the air over the water. This is a remarkable experience and you do not need to be skilled or strong to get to grips with it. This blood-pumping activity is possible on the stunning Nieuwe Meer lake in Amsterdam South, so you can enjoy lovely views and it is a refreshing change of pace from the hectic city centre.

It is always important to arrange comprehensive travel insurance when going on holiday, but particularly if you are trying your hand at the above hair-raising experiences. It is, of course, unlikely that anything will happen and safety is always paramount, but it is best to have peace of mind by arranging comprehensive travel insurance before setting off. A comprehensive travel insurance policy will cover you in the case of an eventuality and allow you to unleash your inner daredevil.
