Lo Pagan Mud Baths

Treat yourselves and the kids to this hilarious day out and you will be talking about it for weeks afterwards. On the coast south of Benidorm these mud baths are the place to come to for a little relaxation, but a little bit of fun too. Covering yourself with the rich dark mud that is found here might seem a touch crazy to begin with, but after a while you will be lathering it on like a pro. Full of health giving minerals, the mud, once it has dried on your skin, cleanses the pores and can even relieve skin conditions such as eczema.

After you have taken the compulsory family photo of everyone all covered in mud, perhaps had a mud fight or two, you can sit back, relax and let it harden under the sun. Once you have washed it off, you will feel totally refreshed; I can guarantee it!

Castle of Xàtiva

What self-respecting teen does not enjoy stepping back in time and exploring a castle? Even if yours grunt at the prospect initially, they will soon realise why you hiked them up to the wonderful Castle of Xàtiva, an hour’s walk from Benidorm (although in the August heat you might want to consider the tourist train!). With an intricate and involved history, this once strategically important castle is divided into two significant parts, the Castell Menor and Castell Major. Within these lie a prison, several private royal rooms, the boudoirs of evil popes, and a Catholic chapel, among other intriguing quarters.

Kids just love re-enacting battles and letting their imaginations run wild here, and thanks to the incredible preservation effort that has been afforded this castle, it is easy to get lost in imaginings and to conjure up vivid pictures of what once went on in and around this incredible building. Mums and dads will also take great pleasure in wandering through the beautiful gardens, admiring the Arabic fountain and bronze cannons, and revelling in the panoramic views that unravel around every corner.

After visiting the castle, I would definitely suggest stopping for a refreshing beverage in the town of Xàtiva itself.

The most convenient airport for Benidorm is Alicante International Airport and with several daily flights from across the UK arriving here, you will have plenty of options. Most of the budget carriers offer good deals and, as the flight time is only 2.5 hours, your teenagers won’t have time to get bored on route.
