Go Wild In South Africa: 3 Reserves For A Super Safari Tour

Explore South Africa’s amazing wildlife and luscious flora on a safari tour at one of these terrific game reserves.

If you are thinking of going on a safari tour, there is no better place than South Africa. Home of the Big Five (lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant and buffalo), this beautiful country offers a variety of game reserves and parks perfect for viewing wildlife. Here are my top three picks that will easily entice any nature lover.

Kruger National Park

One of the most visited safari parks in South Africa, the Kruger National Park boasts a wide and rich range of animals and luscious vegetation. Stretching out across two million hectares in the Mpumalanga and Limpopo Provinces, it is one of the largest safari spots in the world. From the north to the central area the land tends to be relatively dry, while the south end is wooded and highly vegetated. It is here that there is the highest concentration of awe-inspiring wildlife for you to admire.

Most famously, however, the Kruger National Park is home to the Lions Sands Game Reserve where you will be able to spot the Big Five, as well as hyenas, antelope and many other species. In fact, nestled within its compound is the biggest concentration of wild animals in the Southern Hemisphere. It is often referred to as a ‘safari mecca’.

On a safari tour you can rent a 4x4 or book a driver to go off-road and get a closer look at some of nature’s most impressive mammals.

Madikwe Game Reserve

This is another excellent place to go on a safari tour. It is located close to the Botswana border near the Kalahari Desert, just 90 kilometres from Zeerust. Thanks to its large territory, this park has a variety of diverse vegetation that sustains an impressive range of game, including (but certainly not limited to!) hippopotamuses, rhinoceroses, lions, leopards and elephants. Thanks to the topography of the park, there are also many excellent viewing spots and opportunities to admire these magnificent creatures. Best of all, it offers a private and exclusive tour to lodgers, as the park is not open to day visitors during game drive hours.

Addo Elephant Park

The third largest park in South Africa, this magnificent area is a true ode to nature’s beauty. It is located just a short hour’s drive from Port Elizabeth. Though it was established to save eleven elephants facing extinction, it has since blossomed into a wonderous sanctuary and is home to more than 600 African elephants. On your safari tourhere, you should also keep your eyes peeled for, among others, antelope, Cape Buffalo and Black Rhino. To make the most of your experience, book a guided tour with experts providing insight into the park’s history and its wildlife.

Any of these three games reserves would be excellent places to explore the abundance of wildlife and flora that thrive in South Africa. If you appreciate nature, you won’t want to miss a single moment of this incredible experience, so make sure you’ve packed your correctly-insured camera to immortalise a tour of a lifetime.
