Experience A New Way To Dive With Liveaboard Diving

Diving holidays are without doubt the best way to see marine life in its natural habitat. Whether you are exploring coral reefs, shipwrecks or simply taking a dive in the open ocean, there is nothing like a journey into this magical world under the sea.

Liveaboard Perks

Traditional scuba-diving trips can feel restrictive for divers looking for a more in-depth (pardon the pun) diving experience. The routine of getting up early in the morning, travelling out to location and having perhaps only one full dive before returning to dry land can seem inefficient and a bit of a slog.

Luckily, there is a better way of doing things! Liveaboard diving enables you to use a luxury boat as your floating hotel. This means that you don’t have to travel to the coral reef in the morning or afternoon, you are already there. Even better, liveaboard diving enables many more dives a day and even night dives where possible. If you are passionate about marine exploration, this is the best way to do it.

Destinations

The key to a good liveaboard destination is warm water and varied under-water experiences. Also, if you are to be aboard for more than a few days, calmer waters are preferable. With these considerations in mind, here are three destinations you cannot go wrong with:

-       Cuba – The Caribbean was made for liveaboard diving. With so many great diving locations in the region, those who are based on boats rather than on land can take advantage of opportunities by hopping around with ease. Cuba is a preferred destination for those looking for a bit of danger with the chance to snorkel with crocodiles and sharks. The most popular and iconic site in Cuba is at the Jardines de La Reina mangrove forest which acts as a big fish nursery for much of the Caribbean.

-       Socorro Island – Located 600km off the western coast of Mexico, Socorro Island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Nearby, hammerhead sharks and humpback whales gather in large numbers due to the abundance of fish in the area. There are also plenty of dolphins in these waters which are known to be very inquisitive and friendly. This location is quite difficult to get to, but it’s worth it to see big ocean mammals.

-       Komodo – Home to the famous Komodo Dragon, this Indonesian island is the perfect backdrop to some exhilarating sea plunges. Don’t worry, the dragons stay firmly on land, but beneath the waves there are equally impressive creatures. Whitetip and grey reef sharks roam the reefs and manta rays can be spotted hunting on the sea-floor. Most tourists visit the Makassar reef which still flourishes despite the warming seas.

Dive Insurance

Whether you are scuba or liveaboard diving, it’s always a good idea to sort out dive insurance cover before you get out there. With the right protection, you can explore the wonders of the ocean without a worry.
