An Adrenaline Rush To Remember: Family Holidays In Morzine

If you think that the French ski resort of Morzine is all about skiing and snowboarding, think again. Home of adrenaline-fuelled winter activities, the Alpine town has a wide range of family activities to thrill and excite you. And the best thing is it’s just a short distance by airport transfer from Geneva to Morzine, so you’ll waste very little of your precious school holiday time travelling.

As ski resorts go, this one has a lot to offer families; so much, in fact, that it has been awarded the prestigious Famille Plus status by an influential group of French tourist offices. The award recognises that from family-friendly accommodation and restaurants to a wide variety of family-targeted activities, Morzine has worked hard to ensure there is plenty to do for children and parents, both on and off the slopes.

Here’s my guide to some of the more extreme activities awaiting adventurous families in Morzine.

Sledging

If you think of sledging as taking a tea-tray out to the park after a dusting of snow, you’re in for a shock. In Morzine once the pistes are closed the high-speed sledging begins! Take the Pleney lift up to the top of Piste B and then (after a quick training briefing) race your kids back down to the resort. This is breath-taking, heart-pumping fun.

Ice Diving

If you’re looking for the ultimate extreme experience then don your wetsuit and take a trip beneath the ice of Lac de Montriond. This once-in-a-lifetime experience will take you into the dark world of the Haute Savoie’s third biggest lake, plunging to 19 metres deep. This is a unique experience that your family will never forget.

Segway

No, I didn’t know you could do this on snow either! But in Morzine they’ve fitted extra chunky tyres on their Segways so that you and the kids can have fun exploring the beautiful landscape around Lac du Montriond and Parc des Dereches on wheels. This is not just great fun but an exhilarating way to get the kids to connect with the Alpine environment.

Paragliding

While gliding through the air over the mountaintops of the French Alps is clearly an adrenaline rush, it is also one of the most beautiful experiences you can have on a winter holiday. Head to the top of the Super Morzine lift and you’ll find the operators of Morzine Parapente who will take you in tandem off the slopes and into the air. How heart-racing you want this to be is up to you – maybe the kids would enjoy a gentle glide while you challenge yourself to the sensation flight, full of loops, spins and hair-raising tricks.

Getting There

With flights from the UK to Geneva Airport taking around 90 minutes and the transfer from Geneva to Morzineonly another 90 minutes, getting to the resort couldn’t be easier or quicker.

Book your ski transfer from Geneva to Morzinewith Shuttle Direct before you leave home and we’ll have a car big enough to fit your family (and any ski/boarding equipment you’ve told us you’ll have with you), waiting for you at the airport. It couldn’t be simpler.
