Exploring Courmayeur on Foot

With both rural and mountainous surroundings, Courmayeur provides an ideal blend of natural phenomena for avid outdoor explorers. For those who love getting out and about on foot, a 2-hour stroll from Courmayeur to Dolonne is the perfect way to spend your break in Courmayeur, and even better, you can do this at any time of year!

If travelling from Geneva to Courmayeur, the 3km walk is the perfect post-travel release once you’ve arrived and settled in. Put on some active wear and sturdy trainers, get outside, and before you know it, you’ll be heading back for a hearty meal and a good night’s sleep before seeing the rest of what Courmayeur has to offer.

Jeanne Baptiste Spring

Starting off in the direction of Dolonne, head towards the cemetery, located opposite the town hall. From there, you’ll need to continue downwards towards the Dora, which is directly by the bridge. Here, you’ll come across one of the first hydrotherapy institutions – the Jeanne Baptiste Spring. Previously home to baths, these were then closed and developed into hotels. Now, more than 50 years later after their transformation, the structure harks back to its original state. Take some time out to have a breather and absorb your surroundings before you carry on your excursion.

Rue des Forges

To make sure you’re heading in the right direction, turn in the direction of La Regina spring. The now-inaccessible bank, situated on the left-hand side of the river, was previously home to this spring. From here, cross the bridge where you’ll see Rue des Forges on your right. Head upwards towards the village, taking in the beautiful sights of the meadows around you as you make your way up the path.

Dolonne Sculpture

You’ll know you’ve found the right place when you arrive at a sculptural monument created by R. Priod. This testament is dedicated to the alpine guides of Dolonne, and makes for an interesting sight on your walk. Unveiled to the public in 2000, the monument makes for an intriguing addition to the sights you come across during the hike.
