Interesting Trap Pond Voices

A semi-fictional tale of a ghostly experience at the the Trap Pond State Park.

Interesting Trap Pond Voices

Joseph Parish

Well kiddies, how about a little ghost story tonight? You know the kind that is mingled with a dash of truth and a massive amount of fiction. I have nothing corroborated on these facts presented here, however, with a few bizarre events which took place this evening and my active imagination operating in full gear, I sense an interesting ghostly tale developing. As I mentioned earlier, I had to travel to Trap Pond in order to compute the bat population at a specific location. We generally count the bats that leave their roost, before the pups are old enough to travel and then at some future date we would conduct an additional count. From the data collected we could make a positive determination as to how many of the pups were successfully nurtured. I arrived at Trap Pond a little early while it was still light out so I could search for the bat’s location and obtain an agreeable seat at the nearby picnic table to count the furry animals. As the daylight started to wane and nightfall enveloped the area all the usual swamp water sounds were being perceived. The frogs were very articulate this evening while the ducks were getting ready to settle down for the night. The night was air was still, except for the host of unnerving sounds that greeted my ears.

I knew that the bats were active in the roasts of pavilion number 2 so I sat serenely for the final rays of sunlight to retreat. Before long I noticed sets of small wings taking flight as the little beasts emerged from their hiding places above the rafters. Everything was getting quiet in the park other than the frogs and the uncanny sounds of the assorted insects. Speaking of insects, I would like to inject a quick note here that the bats have become a little slack on their job of eating the bugs as I got the hell, bit out of me.

Back to the tale at hand, as I stated, everything was silent and the park was completely closed to all visitors. The gates were promptly locked a little before 9 PM, and even I had to move my car to the nearby maintenance facility, causing me to walk back to the pavilion where the bats were located. In my honest opinion it would appear that no one was around, or were they?

After spending a few minutes observing the pavilion for any bats, which might be flying out from, undercover I was surprised to hear faint voices in the night. I was perplexed as to what the specific words were but I did recognize the sounds as human vocal sounds. At first, I heard only a girl’s voice, but in time I noticed a male voice was added to the conversation. Since I had a flashlight with me, I used it to examine the area for any possible humans that may have stayed behind in the park after the gates were locked. I found none at all, I carefully walked around the immediate area in search of the source of the voices but nothing was discovered.

In the end, I completed my bat count and started the trek back to my car located in the maintenance lot. Now, to the best of my knowledge, there has not been any reports of spiritual or ghostly sightings at Trap Pond however this situation made me wonder about that. It was now time to invest some efforts into doing a little research on the topic and seeking some answers to the ghostly sound riddle. Perhaps it is time to accomplish a few future investigations at the pond in that respect.

In conclusion, Tomorrow is another night and I just might return to the pavilion to conduct some additional investigation on the sounds once again. Who knows, possibly we may have unearthed another one of the states “unsung haunted locations,” only time will tell.
