Moving Soon? Consider This Checklist To Avoid Stress

Here are six things to prioritize when moving into a new home.

Congratulations! After months of searching and paperwork you are now ready to move into your new home. You are excited and need a guide of where to start. There are couple of things you need to do before bringing your furniture into your new home. Enjoy the start of your new life by checking out this list to avoid stress and ensure that your house is one hundred percent ready when you move-in.

To help you out, here is a list of things you need to prioritize when moving in to ensure that the process will run smoothly.

  1. Change all the locks. This should be your top priority as it secures your safety and peace of mind. Although the previous owner gave you their keys, you never know how many duplicate keys are in strangers’ hands. Install new locks as soon as you have the ownership of the house. It’s a simple task but highly important. Remember, it is better to be safe than sorry.
  2. Inspect for plumbing leaks. Check the faucets for water drippings and pipes for possible leakage. An easy way to detect plumbing problem is by turning off all the faucets and monitoring the water meter gauge for about two hours. If the reading changes even if no water has been used then there is a water leakage. This can be a big inconvenience and fixing it may require exposing the pipe lines underneath the floor or walls so it’s better to detect and fix it while the house is empty.
  3. Check the electrical lines. Make sure that all the outlets and light switches are working and whether there are enough of them for your needs. Like the water pipes, it is essential to detect and fix this problem before you settle in to allow the electricians to do their job without causing any hassle to the family.
  4. Remove, replace, or steam clean the carpets. You are lucky if the house you just bought have newly installed carpets with a design that you like. In this case, you don’t have to do anything. If you don’t like the carpets and decide to remove or replace them, it is important to do it before you move-in and while the house is empty. Removing, replacing, or installing carpets is a major project that requires the furniture out of the rooms. If the carpets are not new and you decide to keep them, make sure they are clean and fresh by steam cleaning them. This removes dust particles, bugs, mites, and germs that are not completely removed with regular vacuums.
  5. Disinfect. Clean the house thoroughly to ensure there are no bacteria and germs when you move-in. Using a disinfectant liquid, wipe all the surfaces including the doors, countertops, and cabinets to make sure they are free from any contaminants that may harm your health.
  6. Do a Pest Control. Invest some pest control spray or better yet hire a pest control service who can professionally do the job safety and effectively. Termites, ants, roaches, mice, and venomous spiders might be hiding around the house. Keep your family safe by getting rid of them before you move-in.

Consider these things before moving into your new home to stay organize and avoid stress on your moving day. Wishing you the best on this new stage of your life.
