Childhood In The Attic

Finding one's childhood memories in a box hidden in your attic.

For the past few days, I had been struggling a lot. The struggle to post a blog. Not due to any technical difficulties or problems. But the thing was finding something relevant to write. Constantly was thinking & jotting down points & ideas in my diary. But today something magical happened. I felt like writing it down & here it is.

This blog will be totally different from all my past blogs. It won’t contain any motivation or inspiration. But it is not just a simple blog containing some of the memories.

There is a famous saying in Marathi called” kakhet kalsa gavala valsa” which means the pot of water is under the arm but a tour of the village has been made to look for it. It is used when you are looking for something that is right under your nose. Exactly the same happened to me today.  Being in a very need to find something to write on & here it is, found a very interesting thing to write on. “Inspiration comes from anywhere & from anything” same happened with me today.

Today when I woke up, finding my mom & aunt everywhere. I saw them cleaning the attic place in the bedroom. The attic in my bedroom was located above the wardrobe. The place is filled with lots of boxes & huge suitcases, for which I was very curious about, what is inside those boxes & suitcases.

One by one they were taking the boxes out & were cleaning up things. As soon as all the boxes & suitcase were down. We all started to try to dust off the boxes. After everything was done. I asked aunty “what is in that box? pointing at a big box. ” She told, “find out yourself.” I opened it up & found utensils, cookery items in it. By giving a glance at this, the next was next thing was, me closing the box and pushing it aside. Then I opened a suitcase. In which I  found beautifully embroidered wall curtains made by aunty herself.

After opening a few more boxes & suitcases, which found nothing interesting but old watches, utensils, gift stuff, etc. which was totally useless to me. Mom handed me a box & said: “Open this one & this may surprise you ?”Toys

Hurriedly I opened it up & found my old toys. Some electronics cars, birthday gifted soft toys. I just went nostalgic, my whole childhood started rolling before my eyes. Taking one by one out of the box, simultaneously mom & aunty told me my memories of that particular toy.  It was actually going back in time & feeling it alive. The people who know me, are well aware that how much I love toys & even still now I buy a couple of action figures & play with them.

All those toys,  all the cars, action figures, animals, game sets, hot wheels track sets, etc. were supposed to be my world to me. Day & night went bypassing, me playing with them. Imagining of saving the world from evils. Where some of my figures would play the evil role & some used to be the superheroes. Who used to punch the evil into the face & save the world? Those were my real superheroes. Whenever I used to be sad or got scolded. I use to talk to them like a friend & play with them. They have seen everything my happy, and sad movements, like every phase of childhood.

The unboxing of those boxes from the attic was like opening a treasure box for me. I am very much thankful to all my family members to keep my childhood memories alive. Most importantly for keeping the child in me alive.

So guys you also go & find your childhood memories & toys.  Enjoy playing with them again. Relive them again.
