Peugeot E-3008: The Electric Suv That Can Go Farther Than A Tesla Model 3

Peugeot e-3008 Review: A Stunning Electric SUV with More Range than a Tesla

Peugeot has unveiled its first electric model based on the new Stellantis platform that will power many future EVs from the French automaker and its sister brands. The e-3008 is a sleek and spacious SUV that promises up to 435 miles of range on a single charge, beating the Tesla Model 3 and most other rivals in its segment.

Design and style

The Peugeot e-3008 is the third generation of the popular 3008 model, which started as a minivan, then became a conventional SUV, and now morphs into a “fastback” with a sloping roofline and a sporty stance. The design is an evolution of the previous model, with sharper lines, a larger grille, and distinctive LED headlights and taillights. The e-3008 also features a new logo and a new color palette, with shades of blue, green, and gray.

Powertrain and performance

But the biggest change is under the skin, where the e-3008 uses the new STLA Medium platform, a modular and scalable architecture that can accommodate different battery sizes, electric motors, and drivetrains. The platform is part of Stellantis’ ambitious plan to launch 39 new electrified models by 2025, across its 14 brands include Alfa Romeo, Citroën, Fiat, Jeep, and Opel.

The Peugeot e-3008 electric SUV will have three different powertrain options, all using lithium-ion batteries from the Stellantis-Saft joint venture. The base model will have a 73 kWh battery pack and a single electric motor on the front axle, producing 207 horsepower and 253 pound-feet of torque. This version will offer up to 326 miles of range, according to the WLTP standard used in Europe.

The second option will have a larger 98 kWh battery pack and the same front motor but with 228 horsepower and 253 pound-feet of torque. This will be the long-range variant, with up to 435 miles of range, which is more than any Tesla model currently on the market. According to the EPA, the Tesla Model 3 Long Range has a 75 kWh battery and a range of 360 miles.

The third option will be a performance-oriented model with a dual-motor setup that delivers all-wheel drive and a combined output of 316 horsepower and 509 pound-feet of torque. This version will use the smaller 73 kWh battery pack and have a range of 326 miles, the same as the base model.

All versions of the e-3008 will come with an 11 kW onboard charger and a 160 kW DC fast-charging capability, allowing the battery to be replenished from 20% to 80% in less than 30 minutes. The e-3008 will also support vehicle-to-grid (V1G) and vehicle-to-load (V2L) technologies, meaning it can charge intelligently and supply power to external devices or the grid.

Interior and features

The Peugeot e-3008 will feature Peugeot’s signature i-Cockpit, a digital dashboard that combines a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The interior will also have a minimalist and ergonomic design, with a small steering wheel, a head-up display, and a wireless charging pad. The cabin will be spacious and comfortable, thanks to the flat floor and the generous wheelbase of 2.73 meters.

The e-3008 will also offer high safety and convenience, with advanced driver assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, and a 360-degree camera. The e-3008 will also be compatible with over-the-air updates, allowing the software and firmware to be updated remotely and wirelessly.

Pricing and availability

The e-3008 will go on sale in Europe in February 2024, with prices starting from €52,000 ($58,500) for the base model and €60,000 ($67,500) for the long-range model. The performance model will arrive later in the year, along with a 98 kWh battery option for the base model. The e-3008 will compete with other electric SUVs such as the Fiat 600e, Hyundai Ioniq 5, the Kia EV6, the Volkswagen ID.4, and the Tesla Model Y.

The e-3008 is not the only electrified option in the 3008 lineup, as Peugeot will also offer a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version with a 1.6-liter gasoline engine and an electric motor, delivering a combined 225 horsepower and 39 miles of electric range. The PHEV model will join the existing 1.2-liter gasoline model, which is the only non-electrified option in the range.

Comparison with competitors

The Peugeot e-3008 is a bold and impressive statement from Peugeot, showing that it can deliver a cutting-edge electric SUV that can challenge the best in the market. The e-3008 combines a striking design, a spacious and refined interior, a versatile and efficient powertrain, and a long and competitive range. The e-3008 is a game-changer for Peugeot and a serious contender for the electric SUV crown.

To see how the e-3008 stacks up against some of its main competitors, here is a comparison table with some key specifications and features:

Peugeot e-3008 (long-range) 98 kWh 435 miles 228 hp 253 lb-ft $67,500

Tesla Model Y (long-range) 75 kWh 326 miles 384 hp 376 lb-ft $52,990

Kia EV6 (long-range) 77.4 kWh 316 miles 225 hp 258 lb-ft $45,900

Volkswagen ID.4 (Pro S) 82 kWh 250 miles 201 hp 229 lb-ft $44,495

As you can see, the e-3008 has the longest range of all, but also the highest price. It also has less power and torque than some of its rivals, but it compensates with a sleeker design and a more luxurious interior. The e-3008 is a premium electric SUV that offers a unique blend of style, comfort, and efficiency.
