Mazda has made quite a buzz around the Indianapolis race track for the 2013 season. It was dubbed the Rolex Grand-Am GX competition and many expected the Mazda team had won before they got on the speedway. This year was their ninth straight win. Their category was for the diesel-powered cards and they have proven that their cars and their incredibly fast engines have what it takes to be ahead of the competition. They have won nine out of the twelve races they've performed in. There were five wins for the car #00 and titled VisitFlorida.com Mazda 6. However, four of the races were won in the #70 Castrol Edge Mazda 6. The odds are pretty good for Mazda and their new diesel engines.

Why is Mazda Such a Successful Competitor?

Looking back over the history of their wins, there are many things that have helped lead to their success. First, they were the first diesel car to ever compete in the Grand-Am competition and also the first car to win in this category. All of the races were conducted at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and they were the first diesel car to win at this speedway in this arena. They have set monumental records that make them hard to beat. Their greatest accomplishment in winning races has been their invention of the modern clean diesel engine. In the GX class, they were the winner for the North American Endurance Championship. This award was presented by Visit Florida.com. The Grand-Am Manufacturers Championship was also no challenge for this team, as they were the winner in the GX class. Another easy win was the Sunoco Diamond Performance Award; this helped seal their winning streak that seemed unbreakable.

The Acceptance Speech Gives Understanding To Their Top Ranking

It was during the Rolex annual “Moment of the Year” acceptance speech where John Doonan, Director of Motorsports, received the award and told the real story behind their success. He reflected on the first championship held in Hiroshima, Japan. He commended their courage to build and design a diesel engine that could run clean and would allow Mazda to be a leader in the US market with their modern clean diesel.

With partners at Speed Source Race Engineering, the Japanese and U.S. plants were able to bring the vision of diesel engines with clean fuel to the US markets. The new Mazda6 Road Car was the first to be launched with these new engines and this production based engine is based on durability and the reliable nature of the Mazda name.

The Mazda6 Diesel will be released in the spring of 2014. With fuel economy ratings of 29 mpg city and 35 mpg highway, this lightweight is expected to be a big seller. Of course there are other little features like the SiriusXM satellite radio and the Valet Function will draw buyers in, but the winning streak and the great overall performance of this car is sure to please. There is plenty of passenger room and a comfy ride for even the tallest person. While it is small in size, it certainly is not small in features.
