Japan recently witnessed the unveiling of the all-new 2016 Mazda2 by the Mazda Motor Corporation. The subcompact which is also known as Demio in Japan has received its first ever complete redesign since the launch of the 3rd generation series 7-years ago. This 4th generation Mazda is fitted with a complete suite of "KODO Soul of Motion" design language and SKYACTIV technologies to match the offerings of its bigger siblings such as the Mazda6, Mazda3 and the CX-5. The all-new 2016 Mazda2 is based on the HAZUMI or “spring up” concept that was first showcased in March of this year at the annual Geneva Auto Show.

The other prominent features on the new Mazda2 vehicle include additional in-vehicle and safety technology which feature i-ACTIVSENSE and MAZDA CONNECT. The production of the new 2016 Mazda2 from Japan’s Hofu plant to the global markets is expected to begin this fall. Already 2.4 million units of this vehicle have been sold worldwide, making Mazda2 the bestselling vehicle in Japan. The 1st generation of this vehicle was released in 1996, followed by the 2nd generation in 2002 with the 3rd generation coming out in 2007. The Japanese 2016 Mazda2 will also feature an option of either a SKYACTIV-D 1.5 liter clean diesel or a SKYACTIV-G 1.3 liter gasoline engine.

After the Tokyo unveiling, the 2016 Mazda2 will also be unveiled in October at the Paris Motor Show. Even though most of the other automakers are playing it safe to appeal to the lowest common market denominator when it comes to elements such as styling. The new Mazda is for all intents designed to communicate driving fun as demonstrated by its exterior design.

The first Mazda2 model to debut in the US market was the 3rd generation car which hit the market with a 2011 model. The much anticipated release of the all-new 2016 Mazda2 to the US market is likely to be closer to the on sale date, which will be sometime in 2015. The Mazda Motor Corporation (MC) North American operations are currently based in Irvine, California. The offices oversees the sales and marketing functions in this broad market, in addition to parts and customer service support for all Mazda branded vehicles in the all of US and Mexico. The operations are made possible through the corporation’s, approximately 700 strong dealership outreach.

The 2016 Mazda2 is shaping up to take on the likes of popular competitors such as the Honda Fit, Ford Fiesta, Fiat 500, the 2015 Chevrolet Spark and Chevrolet Sonic with it curvaceous lines, a large grille and a bulging hood which are all calculated to shake up the market in a big way. Although some of the other key details such as fuel economy and engine offerings for the new 2016 Mazda 2 are yet to be released, more information can be expected later this year. The fuel economy and other driving trappings are also expected to hit high notes going by the recent developments and releases made by the Mazda Motor Corporation.
