2015 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro Wins Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 Class

Toyota claimed victory at the 47th annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 race, in the full stock class.

Toyota claimed victory at the 47th annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 race, in the full stock class. The race, which is held yearly, was clinched by the Toyota Tundra TRD Pro team. Their time of 35:40:40.581 was the quickest finishing time of the four teams in its class. They were followed by the Toyota Land Cruiser team with a time of 36:30:06.529. Both the Ford F-150 Raptor SVT team and the Hummer H1 team had to drop out of the race due to mechanical issues.

During the first day of the race, the TRD Pro Team led the pack with a small gap between them and the Land Cruiser team. Ford and Hummer quickly fell further and further behind. By the first evening, both Ford and Hummer were no longer in the race; and the two Toyota teams were left to duke it out for the win. The Tundra team came out victorious.

The Toyota Tundra TRD pro team was comprised of, off-roader Ivan “Ironman” Stewart, Baja class champion Ted Moncure, motocross racer Andy Bel, Baja racer Ryan Millen and BMX rider Jamie Bestwick.

The TRD team did hit a snag in the early morning hours of the first day, when an obstacle, and stalled vehicles shirred off part of the Tundra’s exterior. However, the car continue to motor along to its victory. A tire change was also necessary during the first day, but, those two incidents were the only issues the Tundra team encountered.

Toyota’s strong finish in its class pays homage to the company’s rough and tumble reputation of producing vehicles that can stand up to the test of time and abuse. Toyota has a long history of performing well in the Baja series - and this year’s win simply cements their place as a top competitor in the SCORE series of off-road races.

237 cars competed in the Baja 1000 this year, across all classes. Of the 237 cars that entered the race, only about half were able to finish. The race spanned 1,275 miles along the Baja-California peninsula. Trophy trucks, stock trucks, motorcycles and ATVs were registered to race this year.

The Baja 1000 is an off-road race. It takes place on the Baja California Peninsula of Mexico. It is part of the SCORE Championship Desert Racing Series, and is largely considered the longest race in the series. The Baja 1000 may be set up as a point-to-point race, often panning over 1000 miles. It may also be set up as a loop course, between 650 and 850 miles long. The Baja 1000 was featured in a 2005 Documentary entitled “Dust to Glory”.
