Calling all Charity Runners! If you are reading this you may have already completed a 5k charity running event or you might be the brave type – taking the plunge to smash a charity 10k. You have come to the right place, here at Run for charity we have 10k charity runs to suit everyone.

First step is to sign up for a 10k for charity running event, now for the interesting part – Are you ready to run a 10k?

At Run for Charity, if you have already completed a 5k running event, we suggest you give yourself at least 8 weeks to train, although we know many of our amazing charity runners have given themselves less time and still completed their charity running event.

It is natural for our charity runners to be little nervous about upping the anti and taking a leap to complete a 10k. If you are feeling anxious about completing your 10k running event, then take a breath, follow 10k training guides and remember why you signed up to run for charity in the first place. Remembering your charity’s cause and your fundraising efforts will give you courage to complete that 10k charity run.

To really enjoy a 10k charity run and the lead up to the event, you need to listen carefully to your body. A 10k charity running events is a distance where learning to pace yourself is crucial, even more importantly 5k run. Setting off to fast in a 10k charity run may lead to peaking too early and tiredness, although you may have taken this tactic on your 5k run, just remember there is longer to travel after you hit that wall.

It will put you at ease to remember, that if you have the ability to run a 10k in your training, even if you completed it very slowly, then you can definitely finish your 10k race. If your adrenalin doesn’t get you through, then your spectators cheering for you on the side lines definitely will.

Focus on making your 10 run for charity an enjoyable event,  signing up to run for charity should also be about creating a memorable experience, supporting your charity and finding interesting ways to fundraise to support your 10k goal. Over thinking as well as overtraining for your 10k running race will steal the enjoyment from a beautiful experience.

  1. Pace yourself and don’t be scared of the 10k distance
  2. Map out some 10k running routes, mix things up a bit!
  3. Create a goal to complete the 10k distance, even if you have to jog or walk some of the route
  4. If you have run a 5k run before, try to complete this 5k run twice.
  5. Don’t be tempted to run to run too fast when starting out.
