Use Of Technology In Nursery School

The advantages of technology, not just to impart learning but in organising things within the education sector

Pick out any nursery school in the city - you won’t be surprised to see the kids use an iPad or an iPhone very comfortably. The use of technology at an early stage in education is not a surprise, but it is still a debatable issue between many schools and parents. There are pros and cons to such an extensive use of technology at such a tender age, and we are going to cover some of them in this article.

The case for use of technology:

The advantages of technology, not just to impart learning but in organising things within the education sector are quite obvious. Technology allows kids to develop their cognitive abilities by learning with more interactive mediums. Research clearly indicates that learning in the form of games and videos, which technology makes possible so easily, is a great contributer to the retention values in kids.

Internet works wonders when it comes to the level of exposure that kids can get. Majority of the population in the country lives outside the metrocities. Under this scenario, the Internet gives a lot of exposure to kids through its endless, bottomless information. A kid living in Jaipur can learn Spanish through videos made by somebody sitting in Spain.

Top schools in India use technology not only to teach kids in a better manner, but also for instruction, documentation, assessment and communication support. Most schools have custom softwares that allows teachers and parents to converse very seamlessly. Teachers can keep an eye on the kids’ progress very easily, and very effeciently. And honestly, so can the parents. Hence, it is almost an indeispensible tool for teachers.

It also helps teachers by giving them access to learning resources available globally, and choos the ones that meet their requirement in the best way. This eliminates a lot of unnecessary effort while allowing them to teach very effeciently.

The case against the use of technology:

The major point when it comes to the case against technology is probably the health impact on kids. Surveys show that overall, children today have weaker eyesight than the previous generations did. Naturally, this happens because of the insane amount of screen time that they have on a daily basis. The dependency on technology to raise kids has gone up tremendously. Hence, there is a limit upto which parents can limit screentime for kids. It is their source of education and entertainment as well! Hence, one ought to accept that technology is an indespensible part of all our lives.

Moreover, when the adults are also so obsessed with technology, there is no way we can bar kids from using technology for so long on a daily basis.

Under this scenario, the best way is to push forward activities and ways to spend away from technology is to inculcate them in their daily routines. Kids should have compulosory screen-free hours and outside activities. That is the only way to make sure that they have a balance between the amount of time they spend with and away from screens and gadgets. No school can become the best school India has unless it takes these things very seriously.
