Looking for famous film locations near your student housing? London has plenty – find out which are closest to you.

If you’re staying in London as a student, chances are you’ll be looking forward to exploring all of the city’s famous landmarks, cultural sites and historical highlights. You might even find that many of the best attractions are right on your doorstep, particularly if you’re living in student accommodation.

Though London covers all grounds when it comes to attractions, those with an interest in film are especially in luck – the city is home to various filming locations that are open for public visits, and a lot of them are easily accessible from student housing. London provides so many great opportunities for students, so get out there and explore these interesting filming spots!

Wenlock Arms

Heading out for a pint at the pub? Make a change from your local and visit the Wenlock Arms, just a 15-minute ride on the tube from Liverpool Street station – close to a lot of student housing. London is known for its large selection of pubs, but this one is among the few used as a filming location. The pub features in The Good Companions and Shaun of the Dead, but if that’s not reason enough to visit, the delicious ales will make it worth the journey.

Regency Café

This café is one of the most famous greasy-spoons in the city, so it’s the perfect excuse for a classic British fry-up. Featured in the films Layer Cake and Brighton Rock as well as the BBC series Judge John Deed and Rescue Me, this stylish joint is definitely worth visiting whether you’re into culture or just fancy an indulgent breakfast. The café is just a 20-minute tube journey from Southwark station – a central location for student accommodation.

Farmiloe Building

As well as featuring in several films, this building is a relatively historical site – it was the headquarters for Farmiloe and Sons (a lead and glass firm) from its construction in 1868 until 1999. Visitors tend to recognise the building as Gotham Police Station from the Batman trilogy, but Farmiloe has also made appearances in Eastern Promises and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. If you’re keen to visit, you’ll find it eight minutes away from Liverpool Street by tube.

Aldwych Station

Just a short tube journey from Russell Square Station, this location is relatively close to a lot of student housing. London Transport Museum offers public tours of the station for the public – fans of Sherlock, Atonement and V for Vendetta should definitely not miss this! The building also served as an air raid shelter during the Blitz, so history lovers are sure to enjoy a visit.

If you’re thinking about visiting a filming location in the city, be sure to check out which ones are closest to your student housing. London has so many that there will no doubt be one hiding right on your doorstep.
