Obergurgl: The Perfect Resort for a Couple’s Ski Break

Obergurgl is the ideal destination for couples looking to ski, with picturesque surroundings and excellent snowfall.

Obergurgl is the ideal resort for couples. It’s extremely well-regarded, by the local Austrians and throughout Europe and the rest of the world. The resort is situated right at the top of the beautifully scenic Ötz valley, and has an impressive record of snowfall, with the season stretching from November right through until May.

The charming village centre is a peaceful hub, with no traffic passing through its streets. The slopes are gentle and wide, offering visitors the chance to enjoy a relaxing skiing experience, all in superb conditions. This picturesque, tranquil and romantic location truly is a perfect one for couples looking to enjoy a thrilling escape to somewhere new.

Obergurgl is also perfect for the beginner skier, with the Wiensenlift lift ideal for those who are just starting out and are looking to build up their confidence. It’s well worth booking a few lessons at the highly-regarded ski school too, which has had novices up on the blue runs in no time at all.

Red and blue runs can be found in the three main areas, which include Hochgurgl, Festkgogl and Hohe Mut. These three areas are all interconnected, and boast excellent snowfall, open slopes and plenty of places to stop if you’d like to take a break along the way, including the Chalet Alpenblume and the Chalet Verwall.

Advanced and expert skiers looking for something a little more thrilling will certainly not be left wanting in Obergurgl. Several black runs and ample opportunities to go off-piste await seasoned skiers visiting the resort, with the Hohe Mut’s top half coming highly recommended for those who have plenty of skiing experience.

Off-piste isn’t just reserved for the experts in the superb snow conditions of Obergurgl. Beginner and intermediate skiers can still enjoy these opportunities in the company of a local guide, whilst several of the more advanced ski schools take visitors off-piste.

It’s not just skiing on offer in this resort, either. The other activities on offer at the resort include ice skating, curling, tobogganing and snowshoe walks.

After a day’s skiing, many visitors head to the bars and cafes to unwind with a relaxing drink or a bite to eat. Later on in the night, many guests choose to have a quiet night in at their chalet or other accommodation. However if you still have energy you can head out to sample the local nightlife.
