Ski Where? Top Places For A Ski Break You’ve Never Thought O

Choosing a lesser-known destination for your skiing trip is sure to enhance your holiday experience – here are a few.

If you’re someone who loves winter sports and seeks adventure with every new holiday, you’ll adore these unique destinations. These unusual places offer not only excellent skiing opportunities, but more reasonable prices and fewer crowds compared to the busier, better-known resorts.

Mount Hermon, Israel

At Mount Hermon, you’ll find 14 pistes to explore. The resort’s two black runs will pose an excellent challenge for the more advanced skier, but there are a number of runs suited to all skiing abilities. In addition to skiing, there are plenty of other activities to get involved with both on and off the slopes. Plus, the views from the top are simply unmissable!

Mount Etna, Sicily

Those who are particularly adventurous should head to Sicily’s Mount Etna. Here, you’ll get the chance to ski on an active volcano – a thrilling adventure that you certainly won’t forget in a hurry. There’s skiing for all levels here, with the resort’s 4 lifts taking you back and to from its 14 pistes.

Troodos, Cyprus

This is the most southerly winter sports resort in Europe, and gives visitors the chance to ski across Mount Olympus. The lifts and slopes at Troodos are named after the Greek Gods, adding a little authentic flare.

Jahorina, Bosnia and Herzegovina

The rebuilt pistes of Jahorina are among some of the finest in Europe. Whether it’s alpine skiing, cross-country activities or snowboarding you’re after, Jahorina has more than enough to keep you entertained.

Oukaïmeden, Morocco

You’re probably quite surprised to discover that Morocco has such a thriving ski resort. There are some very challenging slopes here, with the highest starting at 8500ft up in the Atlas Mountains.

Tiffindell, South Africa

In this country, you can ski and go on a safari trip on the same day! Head to Tiffindell and be sure to pay a visit to Ice Station 2720, where you can enjoy the après scene at the highest pub in the country.

Before You Go

Before heading off on your adventure-fuelled getaway, it is essential to invest in some winter sports insurance. This will cover you against almost every eventuality, however unlikely it may seem.

Whilst you may be an advanced skier, things can still go awry. Whether it’s an item being stolen or an unfortunate accident, you will need to ensure that you have that winter sports insurancein place well in advance of your trip. Be aware that when heading to places a little more off-the-beaten-track, you’ll need to make sure your winter sports insurance policy covers that specific destination.

Fancy a skiing trip somewhere a little different? Head away from the more crowded, well-known resorts and you’ll discover Mount Etna in Sicily, Mount Hermon in Israel and many more exciting destinations.
