Tips to Improve Your Strawberry Banana Smoothie

By Joseph Parish

Having survived the youthful desires of three young boys and now raising another thirteen-year-old, I have come to believe that I should have invested in the smoothie ingredient companies many years ago. I remember clearly our weekly visits to the fast food locations to grab one of these favorite drinks.

Eventually we started to make our own at home and one of the more popular versions was the strawberry-banana smoothie. Without doubt the most popular smoothie flavor of all time has been delegated to the strawberry-banana. With the cult status afforded this flavored drink in my family, I thought it was only proper to share my tips on making it with my readers. Perhaps they too would want to provide this tasty fruit treat for their children as well.

This is actually a rather simple drink to make in the comfort of your own home and at a lower cost than you could find if purchased commercially. Children including teens go crazy over these inexpensive creations and with summer all most over, there is no better time to learn these fundamentals than now.

Ingredients necessary

2 Whole Banana

2 6 Oz cups of Strawberry Yogurt

2 Tablespoon of Pineapple Juice

2 Teaspoon of honey

8 Ice Cubes

Start by dropping each of the above ingredients into your blender one at a time. This is a much simpler method than attempting to mix everything up in a large bowl. Add the bananas, the strawberry yogurt, the pineapple juice, the honey and finally the ice cubes to the blender. If your blender starts to lag down and you are having difficulties chopping up the ice cubes you could first place the cubes in a plastic Ziploc bag and pound them with a meat tenderizer. That will reduce the size of the cubes and ease the strain on your blender.

Remember to place the lid on the blender and run on its high speed until all the ice is broken up and the chunks of banana are liquefied. The final consistency of the drink should be smooth as you would find with a milk shake.

If you are now waiting for further instructions you can forget it. See I told you it was a simple and straightforward process. All that is left now is to pour it into your clean glass and enjoy it.

Children often feel left out during the holidays and since we did not like to go out and party, we would watch the grandchildren during those times. Before the day arrived, we would visit the local “Dollar Tree” and purchase several packages of plastic cocktail glasses and perhaps some of the ornamental umbrellas often used in adult drinks. Along with those we bought a quart container of fresh strawberries. That evening as the children was sitting at their miniature table, we would whip up a batch of smoothies and pour them into the plastic glasses. Next, we would take the little umbrella and attach a cleaned strawberry to the end of it. The children thought that was the best way to spend a holiday.
