If You’re Feeling Low, Consider Counseling Psychology

There are many ways a therapist may engage in psychological therapy.

A counseling psychologist is one who can be considered a doctor of the mind. When you’re experiencing emotions and a state of mind that you are not used to, over a prolonged period of time; you probably need to visit a specialist. These feelings can include: sudden drop in confidence and a lot of self-doubt, anxiety and nervousness, listlessness, a loss of interest in activities that you have previously been very passionate about. A lot of this goes unnoticed in the short run, but when you cannot shake of the feeling of unhappiness; your mind is asking you to visit a therapist.

When you visit a counseling psychologist or any kind of therapist; there are no restrictions on what your reason is. To put this into perspective, if a child had to open a crayon box and find inside it 64 colours and throw a fit and start crying because he or she cannot identify the shade of blue; that is also emotionally stressful for the child in that moment; however to us it seems like a simple thing. If you had to apply that logic to yourself, if you were feeling terrible about things that may seem trivial to others; do not judge yourself; visit a therapist.

Those who visit a therapist for psychological therapy can be assured that they are in a safe environment. There is an agreement of confidentiality, between you and the therapist. In this scenario, no matter what you say to them the information is personal in nature and cannot be disclosed to anybody under any circumstances. This gets rid of any inhibitions any person could have regarding the issues of privacy and discussing openly the details of their own individual lives. The counseling psychologist who is conducting the session has been trained with enough study material, internships and as observers around senior therapists and have learnt to be empathetic yet composed, non-judgmental and non-biased towards a patient.

There are many ways a therapist may engage in psychological therapy. The entire purpose is to put the patient at ease and make it easy. There is talk therapy where one on one talk sessions is used to understand the problems of the person and get to the root cause. If the therapist is dealing with a child they may engage in role-playing, theatrics, art and playing in general to understand what is bothering the child. It is also important to remember that the success rate of any therapy will depend upon how participative those going through it are. While some might take months, some people may even take years if they are not receptive towards therapy.

Depression therapy is where the therapist solely deals with those who are feeling the blues on a permanent basis. Sometimes our conscious mind is unable to pin point what exactly went wrong or what was the turning point in our lives that has led to this state of mind. Sometimes, it takes a few discussions with a trained professional who can identify patterns and triggers that make the mind uncomfortable.

Through depression therapy, there is hope. There is most definitely a way out of the slump through professional help. You can find ways to identify yourself, those situations that can lead to a trigger and find a way to work around them.
