The union was announced by England's Anthony Joshua immediately before the announcement of his forthcoming fight against Jermaine Franklin on April 1 at The O2 in London.

"April 1st is something I'm definitely looking forward to, "James stated.

"With the person I've been working out with in the gym, I feel like the world hasn't seen the best of Anthony Joshua.

"I know Jermaine Franklin is a great fighter and is treating it seriously," the speaker said.

As the only active trainer in the sport with two reigning unified champions, James has emerged as a leading prospect to sign Joshua (24-3, 22KOs), who has switched camps for the second time in a row.

The massive British fighter from Watford, England, spent the majority of his career training with Robert McCracken, a former middleweight contender who assisted Joshua in winning the gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London as well as two separate unified heavyweight championships.

After Joshua surrendered his WBA, IBF, and WBO heavyweight crowns to Oleksandr Usyk in their first fight in September 2021, their relationship came to an end. Before to their rematch, Usyk (20-0, 13KOs), who prevailed on points last August 20 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, was recruited into Joshua's camp by renowned cornerman and former IBF junior lightweight champion Robert Garcia.

Before Joshua's first fight following his knockout victory over Dillian Whyte in December 2015, there was widespread speculation that a trainer switch was imminent. Prior to his second-round knockout of unbeaten IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin in April 2016, Joshua was already a rising star.

He went on to win twelve consecutive title fights, during which time he emerged as the top gate attraction in the UK and one of the top pay-per-view headliners. For the first time in his career, Joshua will spend his entire training camp in the United States, and it's time to get back to basics. It also includes the guidance of 51-year-old James, who was named the Boxing Writers Association of America's Trainer of the Year for 2022. Vote participants honoured the Dallas-based trainer for his efforts with undisputed junior middleweight champion Jermell Charlo (35-1-1, 19KOs), unified welterweight champion Errol Spence (28-0, 22KOs), and rising lightweight challenger Frank Martin (17-0, 12KOs).

James had been a professional boxer for 16 years and had only been out of the ring for a year when he decided to become a trainer. The adventure began with Spence when he was still a teenager, who he assisted in guiding to the 2012 U.S. Olympic boxing squad and who has since won three welterweight belts 28 pro bouts.

Even with the acquisition of Joshua, who is already displaying positive signals in advance of the next act in his already illustrious career, the stable remained intimate.

According to James, "I think it's so much about Anthony being the fighter he has to be and wants to be.”

It is all about him. Not about anyone else at all. It has to do with his legacy and his efforts to enhance it. At the same time, it's about us growing and for him to be his best self that evening.

“Three months is not a lot of time, but how much depends on the level you're working on. We are engaged in serious work. He is an extremely intelligent combatant. He is capable. He is complying with and comprehending whatever I ask of him.”

After suffering KO losses, Deontay Wilder must catch up to Anthony Joshua. World Boxing News looks at what keeps boxing rivals Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder connected. Whether they like it or not, Wilder and Joshua are now connected in the heavyweight division by a shared link.

The couple loved having the top two rankings throughout the world in 2017. Up until a certain Tyson Fury roared back, that is. In contrast to Joshua, Wilder stepped up to the plate as Fury once more came to be known as the guy who beat the man.

His British opponent chose to fight Jarrell Miller, which was seen as the simple course of action. Most concerningly, Andy Ruiz Jr. Following Wilder and Fury's thrilling draw, "The Bronze Bomber" put up some strong defences. Wilder was riding the crest of a wave as he successfully defended his WBC title for the ninth and tenth time.

"Both of you, Dominic Breazeale is a courageous man. Regardless of his level of expertise, he is coming to give it his all," stated Wilder.

He has experience fighting at this level. He once fought for the heavyweight championship. He had done it twice before. I thereby eliminated him after the first round. As I may not view Luis Ortiz as the boogeyman, he assumed a new level with him. Yet to the rest of the heavyweight division, he is the boogeyman.

That much is certain because no one has called his name as of yet trying to fight him.”

Deontay Wilder makes up lost time.

At the same time, AJ entered his summer debut in the US full of self-assurance. He was so confident that before their meeting, he let Ruiz Jr. handle his title belts. Yet Joshua's decision to underestimate the Mexican's puncher backfired as he was thrashed in seven rounds.

They then experienced the same catastrophe since, just eight months later, Wilder lost his first fight to Fury in the seventh round. Both had a difficult time accepting being stopped after getting dropped multiple times. When Ruiz overindulged in alcohol six months later, Joshua quickly regained his straps.

Nevertheless, Wilder must wait much longer as a result of the straps being tied up. If he defeats Ruiz, a scheduled WBC eliminator, he will get closer. Whatever the future holds, Joshua and Wilder never imagined they would find themselves in a position where they would both lose their heavyweight titles just a few months apart.

Now it's up to Wilder to see if he can duplicate Joshua's achievement of winning two titles. The time is running out, but will they ever confront one another? Filip Hrgovic will face Anthony Joshua as the IBF championship offer gets closer.

As the following contender for a shot at the interim IBF title, Anthony Joshua is about to receive an offer to face Filip Hrgovic. As initially reported by World Boxing News, AJ is on the verge of securing a shot at the secondary heavyweight championship and might be able to defend the title he earned in 2016 as early as this summer.

The IBF ranking places the former two-time world champion after Ruiz and Wilder. As a result, he will get a surprise chance to compete for the vacant interim red strap against Hrgovic. This is as a result of Andy Ruiz Jr. withdrawing from Thursday's purse bids.

Filip Hrgovic versus Anthony Joshua

Joshua might get a chance to defend his title in its entirety against Hrgovic. Ironically, he is counting on Tyson Fury to obtain this unexpected opportunity to win the heavyweight belt three times. Fury must defeat Oleksandr Usyk in the spring for the Londoner to win.

The IBF would move to authorise a fight with Hrgovic for the ultimate crown if he does as promised and relinquishes. If he ever wins the IBF title again, Fury has pledged to give it up. According to "The Gypsy King," he doesn't want to carry it again, not even for a single day.

He'll undoubtedly refuse to pay the fines, so Usyk may only be fighting for the undisputed title when they square off. Hrgovic will be given the first opportunity because he is the required challenger. The IBF will then narrow down the contenders based on the ratings before presenting the contest.

IBF rankings

There isn't a number two right now in the IBF. Daryl Peoples [IBF Chairman] must move up to number five for a summer blockbuster since Deontay Wilder and Ruiz, who are currently ranked three and four, respectively, are ordered for a WBC eliminator.

That's Joshua, by the way. Considering that AJ and Hrgovic are Matchroom fighters, a cordial internal world heavyweight title bout would be very appreciated.

The late summer event would probably take place in the UK. First, Joshua will warm up against Jermaine Franklin. Afterwards, he'll keep a close eye on Fury vs. Usyk to determine whether his championship chance against Hrgovic will be partial or complete.
