The Blackberry Z30 or the LG G2 – Comparing 2 Flagship Superphones

If you want to get the best phone that you can, read on to find out more about the two models we're looking at today, the LG G2 and the Blackberry Z30.

Want the best new mobile phone that you can get your hands on? High end, top of the line mobiles are incredible these days, packed with power and loaded down with features. But a great new launch is going to cost you at least £500, and that's a lot of money. You're going to want to make sure that you're making the right decision before you commit to spending such a huge sum, and you're going to want to know that you're getting a really good and dependable phone.

Comparing mobile phones can be tough. It's easy enough to find mobile spec sheets online, and theoretically you can use these to compare the features on different phones to see exactly what you're getting for your money. However, that's easier said than done. Mobile spec sheets are crowded with technical data, jargon and huge numbers, which makes them tough for the average customer to wade through.

This is why we’re here to help you. We've had a look at some of the best new phones on the market, and pitted models in head to head competitions so that you can see exactly how they compare. So if you want to get the best phone that you can, read on to find out more about the two models we're looking at today...

Introducing the Two Phones...

Blackberry used to be one of the biggest brands on the mobile market. Popular with business users the world over, Blackberrys were big sellers. But a reliance on the old fashioned physical keyboard phone design has meant that the company has steadily been losing market share, and in fact they've recently announced that they will be leaving the consumer phone market altogether. But before they quit, they've got one last flagship phone, the Blackberry Z30. It is a touch screen phone, and it's got some nice features. But is it too little too late?

LG might not be your first choice of mobile brands, but they've been releasing some fantastic new devices of late. Their newest flagship phone is the LG G2, and it one of the most powerful phones on the market. It's sleek, good looking and has some great specs. So which of these models is the best buy?

What You'll be Paying...

If you want a pay as you go phone then you'll need to buy your mobile SIM free so that it's not attached to an operator. In this case the LG G2 is going to cost you around £530, whilst the Blackberry Z30 will cost you about £500. But by choosing the best mobile network deals you can avoid paying any cash up front for your phone, and pay for it monthly instead. The best mobile network for both of these models right now is O2. You can get either the Blackberry Z30 or the LG G2 for zero cash down on a £32 a month calling plan contract.

The Similarities...

Both these models are touch screen phones with large 5 inch displays. They're both 4G capable, so as long as you've got a 4G data plan from your operator you can get fast mobile internet speeds, though without such a plan you will just connect over 3G by default. Both have the most recent 4.0 version of Bluetooth, giving you faster data transfer speeds and meaning that your phone uses less battery power when connecting.

The LG G2...

The LG G2 does have some quite significant advantages over the Blackberry Z30. For starters, it has a much faster processor, running a huge 2300 MHz model rather than the 1700 MHz processor on the Z30, making the LG more powerful and more responsive. The screen on the LG is better quality too. The combination of 2 and a half times higher screen resolution and 40 per cent more PPI (pixels per inch) means that the display on the LG is sharper, brighter and better defined.

When it comes to internal storage, the LG G2 comes out on top with a 32 GB internal memory versus the 16 GB memory on the Blackberry. So you'll be able to store double the amount of music, photos and other data on the LG. And the 13 MP in built camera on the LG is far superior to the standard 8 MP camera on the Z30, capturing more fine detail which results in better quality pictures for you.

The LG G2 is an Android phone and that means that it comes with an automatic connection to the Android App Market. This makes finding, downloading and installing new apps and games both convenient and easy. Plus, an Android phone is capable of running more than one app at a time, so you can chat on Skype whilst simultaneously surfing the internet, for example.

The LG is around 10 per cent generally smaller than the Blackberry, and it's also lighter, weighing in at 143 grams versus the 170 gram Z30, meaning that the LG is more portable and easier to carry around with you. And finally, the G2 has a built in FM radio, whilst the Blackberry doesn't. This isn't really a necessary thing to have, with so many great radio apps on the market, but some people prefer having the built in radio.

The Blackberry Z30...

What advantages does the Blackberry Z30 have over the LG G2? Not many, to be honest. The Blackberry does have a Super AMOLED screen, rather than the older LCD technology use on the LG G2, giving you theoretically better colour reproduction and more brightness. However, because the LG has much higher screen resolution and PPI, this doesn't make any difference in reality. Other than that, the Blackberry's got nothing to offer when compared to the LG G2.

Which is Better?

Today's decision is an easy one. The LG G2 is a far better phone than the Blackberry Z30, and makes a much better investment. You just get much better performance and many more features for your cash with the LG.
