The Regions Of Menorca: Alaior

Alaior is an excellent base-location for your holiday. The main town’s stunning architecture, with its Moorish and medieval influences, will draw you in, while our villas in Son Bougive you excellent access to the region’s array of beautiful beaches on the southern coast. There is plenty to explore within Alaior itself, but if that is not enough, its prime location in the centre and south of the island means that all other areas are easily accessible in around half an hour.

The Cheese Capital

Thanks to the abundance of farmland surrounding the town of Alaior, dairy cows have become the region’s symbol and reinforced its reputation as the cheese capital of the island. During a twelve-month maturing process, the Menorcan cheese develops its unique flavour that has proven a great success with both the locals and visiting tourists. Allow your taste buds to be set alight by the local culinary delicacies.

The best place to taste this special cheese is Alaior, where you can sample various traditional dishes which incorporate the essential ingredient. With dainty shops selling the traditional produce as souvenirs for tourists, you can even take some home to your friends and family. If you are not convinced by the delicious dairy product, the town’s picturesque architecture ensures the trip will be worthwhile nonetheless.

Historical Gems

Interested in local history? You can begin your authentic local experience by staying at one of our beautifully-renovated farmhouses in Alaior. You will be situated just minutes away from some of the island’s most interesting sites, giving you access to Menorca’s rich prehistoric past. You can explore the Torre d’en Galmés, an impressive hillside settlement with three breath-taking Bronze Age megaliths, known as talaiots. Or, you can visit one of the island’s best-preserved sanctuaries which is just up the road from the previous site.

Travel down the intriguing and mysterious path of the fascinating Cales Coves and explore the prehistoric burial traditions of the original settlers. These coves are an ancient necropolis built into the cliffs of the south coast.  Dug out of the cliff face, researchers believe that these caves served as intricate burial chambers, until the arrival of the Romans put an end to these rituals.

Son Bou Beach

There is much to do in this Menorcan region, but if your holiday plans consist of little more than lazily lounging under the shade of a parasol, with a fresh cold drink in your hand and soft sandy beaches between your toes, then our villas in Son Bou in the Alaior region are the perfect holiday destination for you.

The Son Bou resorts consist of two villages, San Jaime and Torre Soli Nou, and the spectacular beach, Son Bou. We have a large selection of villas in Son Bou which give you access to Menorca’s longest beach. The area is child-friendly and safe, making it the ideal playing ground for the little ones. Without the children to worry about, you’ll be able to better appreciate this postcard-perfect location and soak in its tranquil atmosphere so that you can relax and recharge.
