The Regions Of Menorca: Alaior

Alaior is an excellent base-location for your holiday. The Cheese Capital

Thanks to the abundance of farmland surrounding the town of Alaior, dairy cows have become the region’s symbol and reinforced its reputation as the cheese capital of the island. During a twelve-month maturing process, the Menorcan cheese develops its unique flavour that has proven a great success with both the locals and visiting tourists. Allow your taste buds to be set alight by the local culinary delicacies.

The best place to taste this special cheese is Alaior, where you can sample various traditional dishes which incorporate the essential ingredient. With dainty shops selling the traditional produce as souvenirs for tourists, you can even take some home to your friends and family. Historical Gems

You can explore the Torre d’en Galmés, an impressive hillside settlement with three breath-taking Bronze Age megaliths, known as talaiots. Or, you can visit one of the island’s best-preserved sanctuaries which is just up the road from the previous site.

Travel down the intriguing and mysterious path of the fascinating Cales Coves and explore the prehistoric burial traditions of the original settlers. These coves are an ancient necropolis built into the cliffs of the south coast.  Dug out of the cliff face, researchers believe that these caves served as intricate burial chambers, until the arrival of the Romans put an end to these rituals.

Son Bou Beach
