Explore These Italian Towns On Your Honeymoon In Sicily

You really can’t go wrong with a honeymoon in Sicily – from fantastic food to stunning golden beaches, it’s hard to find a romantic destination with more of a wow factor. Now that you’ve decided where you’re going to celebrate your recent marriage, you need to figure out what you’re going to do while you’re there. One of the best things about this delightful Italian island is the number of lovely towns there are to explore. Here are a few you definitely need to make time to visit while you’re there.

Taormina

Leisurely sightseeing of the beautiful landscape is one thing you’ll likely want to enjoy on your honeymoon in Sicily, and Taormina has more than enough to spare. This picturesque town is small – perfect for when you want a bit of peace and quiet to enjoy your sweetheart’s company. The top tourist attraction is the ancient amphitheatre, although anyone with even the slightest interest in history will find lots to keep them occupied here as Taormina offers a generous serving of this region’s rich heritage.

Top Tip: It’s important to note that this town is at the top of a narrow and steep hill that can be difficult to navigate. However, it is accessible by bus or car.

Cefalu

Cefalu is one of the most popular towns on the island. It’s located by the seaside, with plenty of adorable terraces and quaint houses to add to the ambience. Make sure you and your partner head down to the ancient cathedral that is home to the Christus Pantokrator (a fresco of Christ) and the Roman baths while you’re there.

Top Tip: To avoid the crowds, book your honeymoon in Sicily during October, November or the spring. The weather is still warm and pleasant, but there are far fewer tourists at these times.

Palermo

If you and your sweetheart think with your stomachs, Palermo (the Sicilian capital) is the perfect town for your honeymoon in Sicily as it’s well known for its fantastic street food and array of delectable cafes and restaurants. Once you’ve (literally) had your fill of the cuisine, make sure to supplement your time here with a visit to the Catacombs, botanical gardens, the cathedral, the Palazzo Abatellis and the Palazzo dei Normanni.

Agrigento

Agrigento started out as a rich trading town and, in present day, it is a major tourist hotspot. Join the throngs of visitors on your honeymoon in Sicily and discover the main attraction: the Grecian temple ruins of Asclepius, Juno and Heracles. They have weathered some damage over the years but, luckily, most are still very much intact.

Starting out your married life in this magical part of Italy is a wonderful idea. To make the most of your time in this lovely region, visiting a selection of towns and cities is a great option for sightseeing. Get a taste of everything from the delicious capital to picturesque areas that are far more rural (don’t worry, you’ll find history almost everywhere). There’s no better way to spend your honeymoon.
