Everest Three Passes Trekking Itinerary

Day 01:Kathmandu arrival and hotel transfer, Hotel

Welcome to the country of living goddess and the land of Himalayas. As usual, you will be received by our staffs in the airport and transferred to the hotel. We will get to know each other in the evening over the welcoming dinner.

Day 02:Preparation day in Kathmandu, B, Hotel

We separate this day for the preparation of the entire journey. You will be informed of all the trekking plans and the packing lists, what you can expect and how it can be more interesting. This day can be important to most of the people before beginning the journey. Sightseeing tour in Kathmandu is optional when if intended, you can visit a number of world heritage listed places.

Day 03:Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla 2860m and trek to Phakding 2610m 3hrs, BLD, Teahouse

After early morning breakfast, we will get to the airport to have a scenic flight to the most adventurous airport in the lap of the Himalayas, LUKLA. This short flight is so breathtaking that you feel you are already on the destination but “NO”, the journey has just begun. There are the beverages waiting for you when you touch down so that you can talk about how the short flight has blown your mind. As in all games, first steps are easy so we trek slowly towards Phakding village. Well, the journey to find yourself begins now.

Day 04:Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar 3440m 5hrs, BLD, Teahouse

This day we will enter the World Heritage listed ‘Sagarmatha National Park’. The walk follows the DUDH KOSHI River upstream and crossing several bridges time and again we will climb to the last town in the region called Namche Bazaar.

Day 05:Rest day at Namche Bazaar for acclimatization, BLD, Teahouse

Chilling day to enjoy the wonderful views of different mountain ranges. We will take a short uphill walk to the NATIONAL PARK HEADQUARTER which is our magnificent viewpoint for Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kangtega, Kwangde, Khumbila, Mt. Everest and Lhotse. More excursions can be done upon request.

Day 06:Trek from Namche to Tengboche 3860m 5hrs, BLD, Teahouse

We know you cannot wait to go further closer to the Mount Everest. What about taking the blessings from the HIGH LAMA (priest) for the successful journey ahead! We can do it after arriving in Tengboche monastery where the holy priest is residing.

Day 07:Trek from Tengboche to Dingboche 4410m 5hrs, BLD, Teahouse

Stone steps lead down through rhododendron and pine forests and after crossing a bridge, we will leave the tree lines behind to reach an exposed area for the SUPERB VIEWS of Mount Ama Dablam from up close.

Day 08:Rest and acclimatize in Dingboche, BLD, Teahouse

OPT TO HIKE to Chukhung or Nagarzhang Peak in this acclimatizing day. As the altitude gains rapidly from here onward, we’d like you to take it slow and enjoyable. Dingboche is one of the main highlights of our entire journey from where the mountain views are just extraordinary.

Day 09:Trek from Dingboche to Chukhung 4750m 4hrs, BLD, Teahouse

A short walking day to Chukhung heading east to the last settlement of Khumbu region at Imja Tse valley rim with mind-blowing sceneries of surrounding high snowcapped peaks. You will see the Mt Makalu at your east. In the afternoon, you are free and so OPT TO hike to Chukhung Ri (5546m) for enjoying super views of the mountains over the valley. Back to Chukhung for the night.

Day 10:Trek from Chukhung to Kongma La 5535m and to Lobuche 4940m 7hrs, BLD, Teahouse

A BIG DAY! We start early this morning to reach the highest pass of the entire journey, Kongma La pass. Traverse the pass enclosed between the great Nuptse wall, Mehra (5820m) and Pokalde (5806m) peaks, after a vigorous climb heading towards Khumbu glacier and moraine. We walk carefully on the path of a short steep climb to the terminal debris of Khumbu Glacier to reach at Lobuche for overnight stop in the comfort of a cozy lodge after a tough full day walk.

Day 11:Trek from Lobuche to Gorakshep 5170m and to Everest Base Camp 5364m 6hrs, BLD, Teahouse

It’s not an easy day again but remember we are getting to our dream land today. Few hours walk to get to the Everest base camp and see the world’s wonder with our own eyes. 2hrs of strenuous walk will take us to Gorakshep and couple of hrs walk over moraines to Everest base camp, the main highlight of our journey. If you’re not photogenic, then it’s time to be. J And this achievement has to be celebrated once getting back to Gorakshep.

Day 12:Trek from Gorakshep to Kala Patthar 5545m and to Dzongla 4830m 6hrs, BLD, Teahouse

The highest point of the adventure and also the best Everest viewpoint, Kala Patthar is just 2hrs on a steep climb. It’s a black rocky ridge offering awesome panoramas of surrounding high peaks with Mt Everest at stone throw distance towards east. After an incredible lifetime moment, we will head back to Gorakshep and continue downhill trek to arrive at the base of Cho La pass, Dzongla for the overnight stop. 

Day 13:Cho La pass 5420m and trek to Thangnak 4700m 7hrs, BLD, Teahouse

Another Big Day! We will cross the Cho La Pass early morning after an early breakfast.

Even though it’s quite challenging to traverse (mostly in snow conditions), from the top it offers awesome views of giant mountains and Cholatse glacier. Descend carefully to the isolated Thangnak for the overnight stop after a hard and steady climb over the second pass of this adventure. 

Day 14:Trek from Thangnak to Gokyo 4750m and climb to Gokyo Ri 5357m 6hrs, BLD, Teahouse

Ok, it’s time to move slowly towards Gokyo lake following a scenic trail first then climbing a rocky path into the valley passing first lake, second lake reaching the third lake known as Dudh Pokhari, the bank of where is the summer settlements of Gokyo. After lunch, you’re free and can choose to hike to Gokyo Ri. Gokyo Ri offers breathtaking panoramas of world’s highest peaks from Mt Cho Oyu, Gyachung Kang (7952m), Mt Everest, Lhotse (8516m), Cholatse (6440m), Taboche (6542m) and to the east, Mt Makalu. 

Day 15:Rest at Gokyo lake, BLD, Teahouse

Obviously it’s the resting day before we embark on the rest of the adventurous journey. An optional excursion can be done to Gokyo 5th lake, a 5hrs of round trip. The walk will lead to the complete wilderness through glaciers and moraines towards the base of Cho Oyu (world’s 6th highest mountain straddling the border between Nepal and Tibet). On reaching the 5th lake, enjoy the grand views of Mt. Everest, Changtse (7543m) and towering ice wall of Cho Oyu. Return back to Gokyo for the night stop.

Day 16:Renjo La 5360m and descend to Marlung 4210m 7hrs, BLD, Teahouse

Yes it’s the 3rd and last high pass of this awesome adventure. As soon as the day breaks, the walk continues until the end of Gokyo Lake and to cross Renjo La pass, one of the most difficult sections of this adventure. Of course reaching the top is again the blessing from heaven, so beautiful and mesmerizing. After a pleasant break, we continue through the frozen ponds beneath Renjo La pass and then a long descend to a small settlement, Lungdeng which is close to Nangpa La pass towards Tibet. Walk goes a bit further to reach Marlung village above Bhote Koshi River upstream.

Day 17:Trek from Marlung to Namche 6hrs, BLD, Teahouse

After all, the tougher days have come to an end and it’s the beginning of new journey. The walking will get easier from here forth. Passing through the scattered Sheppard’s huts and yak grazing pasture, the path leads to Thame. After reaching outskirt of Thame village, we will walk gradually to Thamo, a village with hydropower of Namche and other Khumbu villages and in no time you will get back into green woodland of tall pines and rhododendron trees. Overnight in Namche.

Day 18:Trek from Namche to Lukla 5hrs, BLD, Teahouse

Retrace the journey back to Monjo near the Sagarmatha National Park entrance and exit. From here, crossing the longest bridge of the region, you will get to Phakding village. Enjoying the lush greenery and the sceneries around, you will get ultimately to Lukla for the last overnight in the Khumbu region. It’s time to bid farewell to your local guides and porters.

Day 19:Fly back to Kathmandu from Lukla, B, Hotel

Flight starts early morning, transfer to Tenzing and Hillary air terminal at Lukla airport on boarding the plane a sweeping flight of 35 minutes brings you back in Kathmandu and then transfer to respective hotels with rest of the day free at leisure. Farewell dinner will be served in the night time.

Day 20:International departure to sweet home, B, Flight

Your last day in amazing Nepal. It’s the hardest during departing time, we understand that but every good thing has to come to an end sooner or later. Keeping stones in the heart, our staff will drop you off in the airport to say the last goodbye.

Kathmandu airport pick up and drop services

Nature Lovers Treks and Tours’ staffs will pick you up from the airport as per your flight arrival time and similarly drop you off in the airport for international departure according to your flight schedule. During arrival, please don’t forget to look for your name placard hold by the team, outside the airport arrival gate. Everest Three Passes Trekking departs from Kathmandu as per our fixed departure dates. You can join any available fixed departure groups if you are a solo or small group travelers if you wish to, when the trips cannot be customized.

But if you are in a private group, fixed departure dates are not suitable for you and so you need to choose your own dates and packages, when you can customize the trek as per your travel needs. You will be staying in the 3 star hotel in Kathmandu while in the teahouse lodges or guesthouses during the trek.

Nature Lovers Treks and Tours has the best accommodation arrangement for you from the beginning to the end. Safe Drinking Water during Everest Three Passes Trek

Hydrating yourself is the most important thing to do during the trek. You should drink at least 3 liters of water every day or more. Urgent point to Note

We always suggest you to keep extra one or two days in your trek since we are taking the domestic flights from/to Lukla. The weather in the mountains is unpredictable and can change anytime drastically which means your flight can be delayed or at worst cancelled and postponed for the next day. How much does the Everest Three Passes Trekking cost?

The cost of the Everest Three Passes Trek varies from $1400-$2400 depending upon the number of days you choose to trek. The longer the trek, more expensive it will become. Similarly, the price will differ with the accommodation choices also. Normally, Nature Lovers Treks and Tours offers a comprehensive package which is inclusive of all the cost and expenses for the entire journey from the moment you land in Nepal till the moment you fly back home. However, you could also choose to buy only service-based package from us when we will be providing you only the supporting field staffs plus trekking permits and you have to arrange the rest by yourselves.

How is the Accommodation during the Everest Three Passes trek?

In Everest Three Passes Trekking, we will provide you the teahouse accommodations. A teahouse is typically a mountain lodge which is a combination of a lodge or a guest house and a restaurant or a café with basic furniture and interiors suitable for the social hangout. Many teahouses even have some attached bathrooms and the central heating furnace. Most of the teahouses provide the European toilets these days while Asian style of toilets are available in every teahouses. Hot showers are available but on extra cost. The same goes with the hot drinking water since they use the gas or solar to boil the water. Sleeping blankets are usually provided but we recommend you to carry your own sleeping bags for the hygienic purpose {can be arranged on request}. At the same time, it’s better to carry your own toiletries including the towels.

What are the permits that I need for Everest Three Passes Trekking?

For Everest Three Passes Trekking, you will need to make two permits: Sagarmatha National Park Entrance fee {can be made in Nepal Tourism Board at Kathmandu or in Monjo} and Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entrance fee {obtained in Lukla}.

How does this tipping system in Nepal works and do I have to tip?

Tipping is not compulsory for Everest Three Passes Trekking however tipping is all about showing your gratitude and appreciation. We care about our staffs in the fields so we expect you to look after them in return for them looking after you throughout your journey. They are your closest friend in the remotest parts and also your protector whenever anything seems to happen to you. So tipping is highly expected and we’ve made it mandatory too. The amount of gratuities can be determined by yourselves. Normally, a guide expects around $5 or more per day per person while a porter expects $4 or more per day per person.

Can I charge my phones, batteries or other electronic devices in Everest Three Passes Trekking?

You can easily charge your electronic devices during Everest Three Passes Trek {with some exceptional days} but by paying small amount or fees for charging. Don’t forget to buy a plug adaptor or socket fittings before you leave Kathmandu.

Is there WiFi and mobile signal on the Everest Three Passes Trek?

Everest Three Passes Trekking route has good mobile network coverage these days {with few exceptions}, thanks to the Nepalese telecommunication companies called Ncell and NTC. You can buy one of these Sim cards from any local phone shops in Kathmandu. It is wiser to buy a sim card with around 4 GB data in Kathmandu and use the mobile data in the trek to avoid paying extra by buying WiFi on the trek.

WiFi is easily available on purchase in Everest Three Passes Trekking route, mostly everywhere. There are some internet cafes along the route as well from where you can use WiFi to communicate with your loved ones which is comparatively cheaper than buying the WiFi packs. However, the signal varies from place to place and please don’t expect to receive the fast data coverage in the trek.

When is the best time to trek to Everest Three Passes?

Everest Three Passes Trekking can be done throughout the year. However in average, Spring {March, April and May} and Autumn {September, October and November} are the best times or seasons to trek to Everest three passes. Spring and Autumn are known as the Peak season or Busy season in Nepal. It’s because the temperature is moderate during these seasons and the best panoramic mountain views are guaranteed while during other Summer {June, July and August} and Winter {December, January and February} season, the clear weather is not guaranteed. But if you are an explorer, a photographer and a peace lover, less busy season can also be the right time to do Everest Three Passes Trekking. The problem is the weather is harsh cold in winter and there’s snow everywhere while the summer has rainfalls and clouds obscuring the mountains and the views are not so great most of the time.

Do I need to be healthy and physically fit for Everest Three Passes Trekking?

When it comes to trekking in the mountains, health and fitness of a person plays a vital role. If you are a healthy person without any serious medical problems, Everest Three Passes Trekking is for you but if you have any sorts of medical issues, please consult to your doctor before coming to Nepal for the trek. We will be gaining the high altitude of 5545 m above the sea level which is not a joke. What kind of food items or meals can I eat on Everest Three Passes Trekking?

Only breakfast is included in Kathmandu while full board meals or full meals are included during the trek. Tea and coffee will also be provided during the entire trip. During the trek, you will have your breakfast and dinner in the same teahouse where you spend the night while the lunch will be served en route towards the next destination of the day. There are a varieties of choices to choose from; Nepalese, Tibetan, Indian, Continental, etc.

The most common and the highly recommended food during the Everest Three Passes Trekking is typical Nepali Dal Bhat {rice and lentil}; even better without meat, means Nepali Vegetarian Dal Bhat.
