Say ‘Hola’ To Adrenaline: Spain’s Adventure Attractions

Pack the helmets and sun cream, Spain is bursting to the brim with great adventure travel escapades.

Spain is a country of both history and intrigue, with a culture that spans centuries. This has made it a must-see destination for travellers since mass tourism began in the sixties. More recently, the country has been making a name for itself as a hub for adventure travel. The terrain is well suited to this new found role, boasting both mountains and coastline to provide a range of exhilarating activities. In this short introduction we will don lycra, ropes, and helmets to best explore this rich land of escapades. So, amigos, without further ado, here are my favourite three activities in España.

Explore Nature in Andalusia

This region of southwest Spain is an exceptional place to start an adventure-filled holiday. From the turquoise sea to the rugged mountains, visitors have choice aplenty. I would personally suggest starting out in Malaga which is easily reached by plane from any number of UK airports. Once there, a whole host of sea sporting activities await you from windsurfing to jet skiing. From there, it is a simple car journey into the mountains to begin an action packed tour of kayaking and hiking. Finishing the route along the coastal area of Cabo de Gata will bring the adventure nicely full circle.

Traverse the Camino de Santiago

This renowned pilgrimage route has seen visitors from all the around the world follow its path. The “Camino” as it is called by those in the know, is a stunning religious trail through northern Spain that traverses cities, olive groves, and everything in between. The whole route takes around two months, so I suggest selecting a part of the route that most interests you. In particular the last stretch of the walk provides stunning views and the UNESCO world heritage site that is Santiago de Compostela at the end. The route can be undertaken in a group, but to be most faithful to tradition a solitary march is the best way to do it. Along the way you’ll meet other pilgrims and forge friends for life on the winding, grinding, magnificent Camino.

Touch the Clouds in the Picos de Europa Mountains

This mountain range paradise can be discovered 20 km from the north coast of Spain. Once there, you’ll find the tranquility of pine-needle-covered forest trails that lead on endlessly into the distance. For those not confident enough to go it alone, a multitude of tour companies offer accommodation and tour guides for the region. If reconnecting with nature is what you’re after, then this pristine natural park in northern Spain is the ideal escape.

Spain is a country large enough to have something for everyone. When it comes to outdoor pursuits, visitors are simply spoilt for choice. From the southern region of Andalusia right up to the northern natural parks, there are enough adventures for a lifetime. Spain is also fantastically easy to get to with countless cheap flight routes between it and the UK. Make sure to invest in some quality travel insurance to give peace and mind for all your adventure travel.
