There is no greater holiday destination for golf lovers than Portugal. Here you will find a gorgeous climate, beautiful natural surroundings, a rich culture and, of course, world-class courses. In addition to this, Portugal is also home to a number of high profile events that any keen player might want to attend. So when you’re booking your annual golf hotel you might want to choose dates that overlap with one of the following events.

Portugal Masters

The top players from every corner of the globe descend on Portugal in September for the highly anticipated Portugal Masters, which takes places between the 20th and 23rd. This will take place at the brilliantly designed Victoria Course in Vilamoura, which is a beautiful 18-hole par 72 course spread over 90 hectares with a wide variety of lakes, waterfalls and cleverly positioned bunkers adding plenty of drama to the proceedings. This will certainly be one of the highlights of the year and is a must-see for any avid fan of the game.

XXXI Grande TroféuVilamoura

This prestigious amateur competition dates back to 1987 and is a brilliant way for amateur players to test their skills in a friendly yet challenging event. The tournament is taking place from Wednesday the 28th of November through to the 1st of December and you can enter either as a player or spectator. Players will be grouped into categories and will play three separate golf courses with prizes awarded on the final net and gross scores for the men’s and ladies’ competition within each category. In addition to the action, there will also be cocktail parties, dinners and shows. On the final night there is a prize-giving ceremony at a prestigious golf hotel offering an unforgettable experience and a great way to meet some fellow players and fans.

Quinto do Lago Golden Tournament

Another popular amateur competition providing the opportunity to see how you stack up against fellow players, the Quinto do Lago Golden Tournament is taking place between the 25th and 30th of November at Quinta do Lago North, South and Laranjal Golf Course. The competition involves five rounds, a welcome cocktail party, mid-week buffet, gala dinner with prize-giving and prizes for the competitive days, along with free transfers from the course to your golf hotel. First prize scoops free entry into next year’s competition and three nights’ accommodation at a luxury golf hotel. The player awarded second prize will receive two nights’ accommodation at a hotel and green fees at one of the QDL courses. Third prize includes two nights at a golf hotel. There are also daily prizes for nearest to the pin and longest drive.

As you can see, Portugal is certainly the place to be towards the end of the year whether you want to see the pros or test your abilities as an amateur.
