The Best Restaurants Under The Sun... In Málaga

Delightfully delicious dishes are on offer in the gastronomic capital of the Costa del Sol.

Málaga has undergone a revival in recent years to become a city of hipster bars and stunning food. The city, situated on the Costa del Sol in the Andalucía region of southern Spain, is enjoying a civilised Renaissance in fine culture. In the heart of the old town, chic bars and restaurants now vie for passing trade, while other areas of the city have simply upped their game. For example, the waterfront is now adorned with a variety of high-quality eateries mixed with fascinating museums that could easily help pass an afternoon away.

The sun nearly always shines here, bringing a warm optimism that is reflected in the delightfully delicious dishes that are on offer. In this short overview, I will cover three of Málaga’s best restaurants. This is just a small snapshot of the rich tapestry of cuisine that is waiting to be discovered and relished.

Restaurante Oleo

This is perhaps the most quirky of the eateries on offer in Málaga and is certain to tingle your taste buds. That’s because Oleo offers a fusion of cuisines crossing local Mediterranean flavours with the more distant style of Japanese. Fish is on centre stage with an array of sushi dishes to sample. In many ways, this is the perfect light food for the hot summer months on the Costa del Sol. Prices at Oleo are comfortably towards the middle to upper end of what you can expect to dine out for in the UK.

Batik

Batik offers “a complete culinary experience at your disposal” and they’re certainly not wrong. Head Chef Mario Rosado has poured his heart and soul into an eclectic menu offering the best of the region's specialities. For starters guests are invited to “Pick and Share” with fingers prioritised over cutlery. The mains vary from more common plates like gourmet hamburgers to more extravagant fish dishes. The interior design is light and refreshing, welcoming you to sit down for an evening (or lunch) of culinary enjoyment. Like Oleo, Batik prices are similar to what you would expect from dining out in the UK.

Jose Carlos Garcia

Not many chefs work to a position where they can have a restaurant in their name, but this is exactly what Jose has a managed in this luxurious setting in Málaga. The eatery is aptly positioned in the old port and offers a fine selection of fresh sea food for diners. A winning combination of a sunset walk down the promenade and then a meal at Jose’s restaurant will be the highlight of the holiday. Prices at this establishment are toward the higher end of what you might expect to spend in the UK.

How to Get There

Malaga is a superbly easy destination to get to from the UK. The flight route is a comfortable 3 hours and is serviced by most major UK airports. Pre-booked taxis from Malaga airport are the best way to get your holiday well underway in good time.

Lukas Johannes is a driver for Shuttle Direct, the number one provider of shared and private airport transfers all over Europe and northern Africa. If you’re looking for affordable taxis from Malaga Airport Lukas and his colleagues can make sure that you and your luggage get to and from the airport swiftly and safely.
