Soak Up The Musical Magic Of Malaga

Malaga is an ideal destination for independent travellers of all ages, but it has even more to offer to those with an affinity for music. This beautiful port city’s music scene is incredibly vibrant and diverse: from classical orchestras to rock bars, there are plenty of local highlights to be discovered.

How to Get There

The easiest way to ensure a hassle-free start to your holidays is by pre-booking a Malaga airport transfer before you leave home. If you organize this before your departure, you won’t need to worry about navigating a complicated public transport route or relying on expensive local taxis. A Malaga airport transfer would take care of your journey for you, providing a door-to-door service that means you will have more time to simply sit back and soak up the music when you arrive!

Classical Music

For lovers of classical music, there is nothing quite like attending a live performance at the ornate Cervantes Theatre. As Malaga’s main theatre, it boasts excellent acoustics and is proud to call itself home to the Malaga Philharmonic Orchestra.

The orchestra put on concerts every month from September through to June, with special choral pieces played over the Christmas and Easter periods. As an added bonus, tickets are usually very affordable and it’s even possible to buy an annual season ticket if you end up falling in love with this gem of a theatre.

Jazz

In recent decades, the Malaga jazz scene has exploded and taken on a life of its own. A popular new variety of Spanish jazz has even evolved, which expands upon classic beats by introducing Mediterranean, Flamenco and Celtic sounds to its live shows.

Luckily, the city now enjoys a wide range of bars, clubs and showrooms where you can dive into this vibrant scene. Clarence Jazz Club, for one, attracts both local musicians and international artists to its late-night weekend jam sessions. Birdland Jazz Bar promises concerts fully decked out with dance routines and a buzzing atmosphere. Jazz on the Wall club similarly hosts jams every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening, and prides itself on being the perfect place to kick back and meet people against a relaxing and smooth musical backdrop.

Rock

If you prefer head-bangers to classical symphonies and boogie beats, make sure to stop by the ZZ Pub so you can treat yourself to a night of live rock in this fun and funky bar. Live bands from the local area commonly feature in the line-up five days a week, performing for a crowd of hipsters and rockers. Late-night entertainment doesn’t get much better than this.

With so many great venues to choose from, it will be hard to go amiss when it comes to soaking up live music in Malaga. One thing’s for sure – there’s plenty going on!
