Enjoying Family Fun in the Turkish Sun: Exploring Belek

Although it might be famous as a top spot for teeing off, there’s so much more to this Turkish resort than the acres of state-of-the-art golf courses. Belek also has miles of stunning beaches to wander along, as well as numerous fascinating historical sites within easy reach of the resort. Tire out the kids with adventure activities like water sports or rafting, or get out and explore some of the local towns and nature spots in the region.

Here are some of the top family activities that will help you discover a different side to Belek.

Spend a Day at the Beach

Belek boasts an amazing 10 miles of white sand beaches along the Mediterranean coast, so there’s plenty of space for families to spread out their towels. Rated 8 out of 10 as a family destination by the Beach Inspector guide, these beaches enjoy calm, warm waters and offer a wide range of water sports options. The Kadriye section of the beach has a dedicated picnic area, which is ideal for when the kids get hungry, and the Belek Beach Park has family-friendly restaurants too.

Save the Sea Turtles

Belek’s other claim to fame is as one of the most important nesting sites for endangered loggerhead turtles, also known as Caretta Caretta turtles. The females of this species return year after year to Belek’s pristine coastline in the early summer months to lay their eggs. Visit the beaches and pop into one of the information centres run by the Mediterranean Association to Save Sea Turtles to learn more about why this habitat is such an important breeding ground. You will also discover the inspiring work this organisation is doing to help protect this incredible animal.

Explore Further Afield

Belek is also a perfect jumping-off point to explore the rest of the Antalya region of Turkey, which is rich in natural wonders and intriguing ancient ruins.

  • Jeep safari and white water rafting - Thrill-seekers can head out into the mountains to tour the stunning scenery in a jeep, before a hair-raising white water rafting ride through rapids.

  • Antalya city centre - Take a day trip to the harbourside city of Antalya, home to the spectacular Duden waterfalls. Then, stroll through the Old Town to check out Hadrian’s Gate, before visiting the archaeological museum or aquarium.

  • Aspendos Roman ruins - Travel back in time to the ancient Roman ruins of Aspendos, only a few kilometres away from Belek. The star attraction here is undoubtedly the impressive theatre, one of the best-preserved Roman theatres in the world.

How to Get There

When you’re travelling with kids, all you want is a smooth, stress-free journey, and the best way to guarantee that is by booking a Belek transfer to take you straight from the airport to the resort. There’s no need to waste time hanging around the Arrivals lounge trying to figure out the local bus system, bored children in tow, when a Belek transfer can pick you up as soon as you land and take you straight to the door of your hotel.

With so many fun activities for the whole family to enjoy in Belek, you’ll want as much time as possible to explore this stunning coastal region.
