A Gust of Pure Air

How many times have you felt a gust of pure air in your hair on breezy, windy days? The air pollution menace has been increasing at an alarming rate.

How many times have you felt a gust of pure air in your hair on breezy, windy days? The air pollution menace has been increasing at an alarming rate. The concept of pure air has been lost on us. Thus, the need for high-efficiency particulate air or HEPA filters. Filters meeting the HEPA standards have many uses in medical facilities, automobiles, aircraft and also homes.

Certain standards need to be fulfilled as per the United States Department of Energy. To qualify as HEPA, an air filter must remove 99.97% of all particles more than 0.3 micrometers from the passing air; it is also subject to interior classification.

These filters are made of a mat of randomly arranged fibres composed of fibreglass and possess diameters between 0.5 and 2.0 micrometers. Key factors affecting function are fibre diameter, filter thickness, and face velocity. HEPA filters are designed to target much smaller pollutants and particles. These particles are trapped (they stick to a fibre) through a combination of the following three mechanisms: Interception is the first stage of the process where flowing particles flow in the air stream and come within the radius of the aforementioned fibre and stick to it. The second step is impaction, where larger particles cannot avoid the said fibre and are forced to embed in one of them. This effect increases with diminishing fibre separation and high air flow. Final step is diffusion, which is a result of the collision of gas molecules with the smallest particles, especially those below 0.1 mm and are stuck in the filter at lower air flow velocities.

Homes, especially the ones with infants or allergic inhabitants are in dire need of air purifiers. Dust, pet hair, smoke particles etc. can pose a risk to even the healthiest of people; the situation becomes more sensitive if there are new born babies or sensitive people at home. By installing an air purifier we prevent the impurities which can be breathed in by you or worse, your child.

There are two primary types of purifier s that are available, one which is made especially for the usage of one room whereas another type of purifier is installed for the entire house. The former covers a certain amount of space anywhere between 200-500 square feet while the latter will be attached to the heating and cooling system of the house. Investment in the air purifier should be made according to various factors like pets or smokers in the house or areas with very high pollen count.

Air purifiers should be prioritised equipment for the household especially in the case of babies because they have delicate immune and respiratory systems, an air purifier can help them avoid potential health problems, like asthma later on. Due to awareness and knowledge about the harmful effects of impure air even in the house, many filtration systems provide the product and the installation in the consumer's home and commercial address.

Such filtration systems are certified HEPA filter and various portable, small and flexible air purifiers are provided for apartment spaces, homes, offices or hotels. Therefore, to bring up your child in a healthy environment like you did, installing an HEPA approved filter device is essential.

If you are considering buying a HEPA filter, find out how much that the filter can clean and make sure you buy one that is big enough for the room where you plan to use it.
