Fairies in Miniature Gardening Paradise

Dream with me for a moment! What do you imagine when you picture paradise? It really is a matter of perspective.

Dream with me for a moment! What do you imagine when you picture paradise? It really is a matter of perspective. What do you think your friends, who create fairy gardens, would consider their ultimate “happy place”? Several people picture tropical beaches, others consider camping under the stars, and some people dream of hiking on snowy Mount Everest. The point is that paradise can look different to everyone – my personal pleasure involves the ocean, an umbrella, a good book, and a fruity drink.

The thought of planning a miniature garden to capture the memories of my Paradise sounds fun. Is there a type of fairy garden planter that represents peace on earth to you? I know that I really love the idea of something rustic, vintage, and somewhat kitschy. For my ocean paradise remembrance, a container idea that comes to mind would be a vintage suitcase or an old glass aquarium. To my delight, after a day of shopping at a local flea market, I came home with a 50’s suitcase that had a patina acquired from many travels. This suitcase is exactly what I need to place fairy gardening accessories and tropical miniature plants to tell my story about a paradise vacation, because my husband and I are going on a trip to Hawaii in ONE WEEK!

I am very excited and it will be the “trip of a lifetime”. The fairy garden idea occurred to me while we were planning massages, excursions, restaurant reservations, and day trips. Showcasing our adventure would be a fun way to utilize my miniature gardening skills. I want to make this temporary version of paradise, a permanent part of our lives. As a creative person (and someone who loves gardening), I am already planning on how to memorialize our trip with a fairy garden as a big part of my house. As summer starts coming to a close and fall is right around the corner I am excited to add my final “summer themed” miniature garden to the front porch of my house. When you live in the Midwest, you need to enjoy the summer for as long as you can.

I’m sure the miniature accessories and miniature plants that I initially want to add to my paradise themed garden will change after our trip and I see all of the beauty that Hawaii has to offer. I'll be sure to call up my gardening friends to figure out the best miniature plants that can simulate these tropical plants in our Midwestern weather. I love the idea of using a coconut shell as a “fairy house” and adding windows and doors to create something unique and beachy. I know I will want to add tropical drinks, lounging chairs, books, and a whole beach scene to enhance the impression of my personal brand of paradise. In my fairy garden, I am thinking of using beach sand sprinkled with tiny sea shells from the ocean. Sand castles are mandatory for my memory fairy garden. I brought the idea up to a dear friend of mine, and she is already looking forward to a day of crafting and miniature gardening after I get home.
